Hey North Kildonan! 👋
With our next monthly local food delivery coming up this Saturday, November 8, we wanted to make sure folks in your area of the city knew about this great option to source local food for your family!

We offer a number of products from our SW MB regenerative farm, including 🐄GRASSFED BEEF 🍯RAW HONEY 🥚EGGS + other locally-sourced foods!
Our friends at park alongside us, so that you can choose to also source pasture-raised 🐖PORK, 🐑LAMB, 🐓🦃POULTRY, 🐄BEEF, 🥚EGGS, and the BEST 🧼HANDMADE NATURAL SOAPS!

This isn’t new, actually- our farm has been serving the Kildonan areas for a number of years when we saw there seemed to be a lack of local & sustainable food options (especially year-round). We started in the empty parking lot where Safeway had shut down (now FreshCo) and now you can find us over at the parking lot of the North Kildonan Mennonite Church, 1131 Roch St.

We love all of our customers, but in North Kildonan there’s such a lovely community feel - and with farmers markets ending for the season, we want to know we deliver to that area every 2 months!
❤️ Please TAG A FRIEND in this post that lives in North Kildonan, East Kildonan, Elmwood, Springfield, West Kildonan, Garden City or any of the other nearby neighborhoods!
If you are an existing customer referring a new one, tell them to mention your name in the order notes of your first order and they will receive $10 in store credit (and you get a FREE jar of honey)!

Orders for NOVEMBER 8 due 11:58pm this Thursday, Nov 6, with pick up options of:
1️⃣ WOLSELEY: Portage Ave Church, 1-2pm
2️⃣ NORTH KILDONAN: NK Mennonite Church, 3:00-3:45pm
** To order, see our online store**
🤝Hope to see some new faces there on Saturday and hook your family up with some delicious food!

✨NEW Beef Bone Broth product just added to the online store! 🦴🍲

Those of you following along know we use a steady supply of bone broths in our kitchen year-round. We use it in soups, stews, chilli, braising dishes, but also drink it straight up with a bit of salt. A nourishing pick-me-up when you need one. We also regularly add broth when cooking rice / pastas / risottos.

Sold frozen, this nutrient-rich broth has been simmered down by us for those of you that just don’t have the time to make it yourself, but value the health & flavour benefits of a broth made using grassfed beef bones, veggies, herbs. No salt added, so you can salt to the level you need. We also don’t skim the fat, so there’s a beautiful layer of it on top that you can choose to incorporate or remove (I’m team Add Fat every time, but you do you)

SAVE 20% in our introductory offer this month!

How do you use bone broths in your kitchen? Tell us below and we’ll select one of you to win a FREE 750g package.

psst: For those of you that do like making your own broth, our marrow/jnuckle bones are listed at 20% off, this month. ‘Stock’ up!! 😉

Just want to say THANK YOU to everyone who stopped by our booth at the Market Sunday, to say hello, pick up some food or both!

The Harvest Moon Festival is always such a highlight for Troy & I - we enjoy camping there as a family, taking in music, workshops, good food & drink and general hangs with friends/festival-goers and then it’s all capped off with the market on Sunday. It’s the one and only farmer’s market we do all year.

If you are new, please consider signing up to our email list to hear about our monthly deliveries to Winnipeg (along with , who were also selling there all weekend) - next one is October 9!

Big thanks to all who put work into organizing our favourite lil small-town festival in Clearwater, MB, and to the town’s residents for being gracious hosts as always! 💕

(Thanks to for this shot 📸)

If you know Troy, you know he LOVES trees. Born & raised in the Parkland, Troy was surprised and a bit dismayed at how few trees we have in this ‘bald prairie’ part of the world. He tree planted for years and has worked to plant new trees on our land almost every year we’ve been farming here.

When some of our shelter belts (trees lining pastures/fields) began seeding out Siberian elm seedlings soon after our acquisition of the pasture, we didn’t pay it too much mind. As the trees grew larger, and became established, they began taking up more and more of the limited grazing acres we had. Without wanting to spray them out (Troy was also trying to seed new legumes in these pastures), we tried pulling individual ones out with a skid steer attachment, and discovered that they had massive tap roots that reached deep down into the water table. We realized that this must be why the trees weren’t seemingly competing with the surrounding grass & legumes. In fact, the areas that were shaded by them survived better in drought years. But it would take far too long to remove them this way.

However, it has gotten to the point where driving a quad through them, having cattle graze in amongst them and even just trying to put up a fence line through them became pretty much impossible. See the photos here from this Spring when we had the cows & calves in the area - it was hard to keep track of all animals when they were in here!

With funding assistance from , we were able to hire Jason at Cottonwood Contracting to come in with his handy-dandy tree-mulching contraption to remove a number of these trees. Though this might seem antithetical to our goals of regenerative agriculture, it is crucial in allowing us to better fence and graze the area, as opposed to being almost unmanageable. Plus, we asked them to keep a number of trees to act as shade and maintain some habitat for the animals that appreciate them.

We are thankful to Jason for his hard and precision work, and would highly recommend checking out his business (Cottonwood Contracting) if you need similar tree-management work done. We can now manage this area better moving forward.
