Every year, nearly one billion birds collide with glass in the United States. We need to say that again because it's a figure that is hard to grasp. Every year in the United States, nearly one billion birds collide with the glass on our buildings and structures. It doesn't have to be this way.

Dress up those windows. Patterns can be applied to the outside of windows to help birds see that glass is there. Tempera paint can be easily applied and is easily removed using vinegar and water. As we head into mushroom season, this is your timely reminder that all mushrooms are perfectly safe to touch, hold, handle and sniff, even the toxic ones! 👃🏻🍄🫲🏻✅

If you come across a beautiful mushroom, don’t be afraid to go over and say hello - give them a stroke or a pat, have a look underneath at their gills or pores (or at the fairies that may be living there), and marvel at the magical, mysterious, beauty that these thoroughly amazing organisms hold.

Mushrooms can only harm us if we eat them, so managing this, especially with children, is all you have to really be cautious of. Washing hands after handling is preferable, so having a small bottle of water to hand for this is sensible, but don’t worry too much if you forget - do it when you get home.

Make mushrooms as familiar to you as dandelions and daisies are. Don’t be afraid!
