Sometimes ranching looks like an unplanned bath in the water trough.

Managed to help this steer calf out of his soggy predicament, but it did require me placing myself directly in the splash zone.

In other news, how are folks managing algae growth in their water troughs?

Garden experiment update! In the last 7 weeks, we’ve had little more than 1” of rain. I’m sure that has contributed with the lack of weeds and grass regrowing but, the wool has done a beautiful job of keeping the soil moist and cool. With an average of high 20 degree days some low 30’s, the grass root pull out nicely, without struggle and I only need to water typically once a week still, for the plants with with wool at least, anything with out wants to be water at least 3 times in this heat.

I think I’ll definitely have to add extra support posts for the tomatoes for next year 🤔

Got to go out and do some garden foraging with my helper yesterday! And turns out, extra heavy wool still does not stop the weeds. Next experiment!
For probably 30 years give or take, my mom has used the grass clippings in her garden and flower beds. So I’m going to try some on top of the wool and some below the wool, we shall see what happens 🫣🤗

It’s truly not about the roses or big bouquets, when Clint and Skye head out to do cow stuff and stop in the middle of it all and say, “I bet mom would love those flowers” that has greater value than anything from a store ever could 🥰🥰
