Our piggies are growing fast for their butcher date in November!

Why do we butcher smaller pigs?

Many small farms grow their pigs out to larger sizes, but the infrastructure that large hogs need can be hard to install. Often people are pushing their pens and fencing to the max, which isn't healthy or safe for anyone.

We choose to butcher a smaller (and more tender!) animal so that they can have a comfortable set up, and we can be comfortable and safe handling them.

Counting down the days to Citrine (yellow) and Acorn (red) kidding!

These does are only 5 months apart in age, but Citrine is due with her 2nd litter, and Acorn is due with her 3rd!

Acorn was a very fast growing doe kid, so we bred her to kid as a yearling. Unfortunately, she had twins (it was a twin year!) and yearlings can sometimes get a bit overwhelmed. We pulled her one daughter (Pistachio) to bottle raise, and that daughter kidded in the spring for the first time, with one doeling (Macadamia).

Only 26 days left for Acorn, and 36 days for Citrine!

We're so proud of these kids for the effort they put in over the summer. All that hard work paid off!

Five animals that got 1-on-1 care, and five kids who learned how much muscle and commitment it takes to make those animals blossom.

The 2026 Grower Program comes to a close after the Timmins Fall Fair, but the bond these kids build with their animals lasts a lifetime.

Some cud-chewing ASMR for a moment of peace.

I spend so many hours with the goats. A lot of people miss one of the most important parts of owning livestock: spending time with them. I know my animals intimately and I'm able to see the tiny changes in their health and happiness because of that. They're comfortable with me, and they trust me, so I'm able to groom them, medicate them, set their broken legs and give them stitches without it being scarier or more stressful than it has to be.

Sure, they're smaller hoofstock and I can (and sometimes have to) use brute strength to do their physical care. But it's a lot nicer and easier for everyone if they are my friends.
