With what is going on in the United States regarding beef and them importing beef from another country to off set the price of beef.
Everyone is saying how the farmers are suffering already and this will bankrupt a lot more farmers to come.
I usually don't make political posts on my page and try to keep it light and fun. But this subject is something I have to talk about. And yes all farmers are going through the same even Canadian farmers.
As a consumer you vote with your money. You don't like Tim Hortons cause they only hire immigrants to work there. You don't like beef being imported. And yes we import to. You don't like vegetables from Mexico. You don't like potatoes from Idaho. Then stop going there and buying it.
The solution is simple start buying local. Buy from the farmer down the road that grows potatoes. Buy from the farmer down the road that sells pork. Buy from the farmer down the road that sells beef. Buy from the farmer down the road that grows vegetables.
If all farmers in Canada decide to say f***k it and only produces for their own family and not everyone else around. Then what. Think about the impact that would have. Not only for the farmer but for you as a consumer. Can you trust foods from other countries? Do they have the same regulations?
Buying from a local farmer gives you access to how the animal is treated. What it is given its whole life. Most pigs get 7 injections per life. That is vitamin shots, minerals, antibiotics, medication. Local farmers usually only give 1 shot to their pigs.
Just think for one second. How is the only people going bankrupt feeding the world? How is that possible? We've had people complain about our prices but to be honest Vic and I don't care if you like our prices or not. We work our asses off to feed our family and in return we feed other families to. The quality is reflected in the price. When people complain about the price of our eggs I happily tell them not to buy them. But I also make sure to tell them that the $4 dz you buy at the store is laid from a chicken that is kept in a 1 foot square box her whole life. And yes I know our prices are not for people struggling financially.
Anyways all this to say is THINK about what your money is voting for. And if you voted for the wrong thing then don't go crying to others.
I'll keep buying beef from our favourite farmer. Hands down the best decision we have made.
Cheers
