Our sheep are finally out on some pasture! One of the latest starts on pasture that we can remember. Even with this, we're still making a bet that the next couple of warm days will prompt rapid forage growth. Otherwise we'll be whipping through existing pasture to avoid damage.

Sunny days have been few and far between so far this spring, so we haven't spent as much time as we'd like basking in the warmth of the barnyard watching lambs play. But here are a couple videos of them!

Just counting down the days when pasture rotations can start...the grasses here haven't quite reached a good stage of growth yet, but soon we hope!

This is Twilight, one of the prettiest lambs born so far, just 2 days old! Her mother Shadow is a first time mom who birthed a fairly large single without help and has been mothering her new ewe lamb very well. Skyler and Emma named this little one.

Lambing has been chugging along over the past month, somewhat colder than we'd like, but the momma ewes and lambs have been doing well. A few more pregnant ewes to go, and we're checking the pastures daily to gauge forage growth. The cold temperatures and lack of sun definitely have the plants in a holding pattern so far. Fingers crossed nature hits the growth button soon!

Happy April everyone! And no, this isn't an April Fool's joke ;p Our newest ewe lamb is like our logo, with a black body, white head and feet!

Having put in 3 ram lambs for breeding last fall, we weren't sure how tight birthing would be this year. So far, it's pretty tight! Over a quarter of our bred ewes have lambed so far. We'll see if we have a lull after all the initial excitement;p

Fingers crossed we actually experience spring soon. Our eyes could all do with some greening out there!

A special treat for Knit City Toronto! Dana Lee Brown has sent me a limited number of woven wool scarves for sale at the show.

These scarves are made from the fleeces of our sheep flock, from all natural colours. Wave Fibre Mill took them all the way from unwashed fleeces to woven and finished scarves. A truly Canadian product...grown, designed and manufactured by women-owned businesses.

Brittany of Everwilde and I will be at our shared booth 426/428 at the show starting Friday night. Come visit us!

Knit City Toronto starts in less than a week, and we'll be there with our yarns!

Our newest yarn is a sock yarn, made from our lambswool, and blended with Ontario grown mohair for added strength, all processed by . This is our first time shearing just the lambs (7 months) to make their own yarn and we're super happy with the result! Look at that gorgeous graphite colour! And the sheen!

Come see and squish this new yarn in person at Knit City Toronto at the CNE next weekend. Look forward to meeting many of you there!
