Introducing our wool pouches!

It's taken me a while to get these prototyped and then produced, but finally, I have our wool pouches up on our web store. The first couple were made just in time for their debut at Wave Fibre Mill's 4th anniversary festival, where they both sold, so it's taken me a while to get some more made, but here they are!

The pouches are made from our wool twill fabric, which was processed from raw fleeces all the way to woven fabric by Wave Fibre Mill. They're lined with organic cotton fabric, have grosgrain ribbon tabs, and a brass YKK zipper. They're also sewed with all cotton thread. For the current pouches available, the liner fabrics are from Birch Organic Fabrics, with Charley Harper prints.

And yes, I sewed them all, and have been having fun picking ribbons and fabrics from my collection. Yes, I do have a large ribbon collection, which pre-dates my farming days. I may not make yearly trips to Mokuba in Toronto to gaze longingly at their incredible stock of ribbon, but my collection is quite extensive enough for me to find the perfect one for most projects ;)

If you'd like a lovely Canadian wool fabric pouch for all your pouching needs (craft projects, sewing kit, toiletry bag, medications holder, jewelry bag, etc.), go ahead and click 'Add to cart' at our web store (www.justblacksheep.com).

Lots of pretty things to wear and yarns to make with. A showcase for Ontario wools and dye flowers!

Our sheep are finally out on some pasture! One of the latest starts on pasture that we can remember. Even with this, we're still making a bet that the next couple of warm days will prompt rapid forage growth. Otherwise we'll be whipping through existing pasture to avoid damage.

Sunny days have been few and far between so far this spring, so we haven't spent as much time as we'd like basking in the warmth of the barnyard watching lambs play. But here are a couple videos of them!

Just counting down the days when pasture rotations can start...the grasses here haven't quite reached a good stage of growth yet, but soon we hope!

This is Twilight, one of the prettiest lambs born so far, just 2 days old! Her mother Shadow is a first time mom who birthed a fairly large single without help and has been mothering her new ewe lamb very well. Skyler and Emma named this little one.

Lambing has been chugging along over the past month, somewhat colder than we'd like, but the momma ewes and lambs have been doing well. A few more pregnant ewes to go, and we're checking the pastures daily to gauge forage growth. The cold temperatures and lack of sun definitely have the plants in a holding pattern so far. Fingers crossed nature hits the growth button soon!
