This Week on the Homestead

Not a lot happened. We finished a new egg sign, and got a furtilizer. While we were taking a break from the busyness, the plants are growing and the chickens are enjoying being outside and eating all the bugs.

This Week on the Homestead

We were having some problems with our log trailer. Unfortunately the hitch on the trailer kept breaking. Aaron tried welding it together, but then it broke in another spot. We kept welding and it just kept breaking. After many welding attempts, it seems to be holding together. We are cautiously optimistic and will can now continue to haul logs.

This Week on the Homestead

We cleared out the Chicken coop. Over the winter we used the deep litter method. The deep litter method is where, instead of cleaning out the coop every week, you just add clean shavings. This creates a living composting system. This method helps create and retain heat throughout the winter. Now that it is warmer outside, we scraped out all the layers and started fresh.

Wood Wood Wood!
We are lucky to live in such a beautiful area full of trees. As we are creating new trails though the woods, we are using the trees we cut down to split into firewood. Chopping down trees, splitting wood into perfect firewood, and making deliveries.

Nothing like the sound of chainsaws in the morning.

This Week on the Homestead

We are Blazing new trails.
While clearing some trees, we found some barbed wire. We decided to follow it. In doing so we discovered the trail that our Great Grandfather used. Now we are cutting trees to regain the trail.

The sap was flowing this week. We were thrilled to see the sap buckets overflowing. We spent most of our days collecting full of collecting sap, boiling it down and we started to fill some bottles this week.
