Usually owls go undetected in our woods with the heavy tree canopy disguising their location. However this time of year we have a healthy population of Robins and they are extremely vocal when their babies are threatened. This gives away owls locations easily. Strangely I was able to approach this Barred Owl about 2 arm lengths away and it wasn’t phased. Yet when our dog approached it spooked and flew off. Maybe they have a relationship! A number of years ago, the frogs in our area were hit hard by a virus . On top of that, there was logging above our property where it was unclear if herbicides were sprayed thus affecting the frog populations as well. In some areas in the valley, the frogs were so loud you couldn’t talk to another person without yelling! This also means natural mosquito patrol has moved in. Vedder Mountain is home to the Northern Red Legged Frog who is on the SARA list and it considered threatened with declining numbers. The sun comes out and suddenly I think I’m a super hero who can do a week’s worth of work in 1 day! I did however get an extraordinary amount of work done with help from my mom on the end of the rake. I cleared a hillside of debris, blackberry removal, trimmed our old apple tree, power washed the deck, wiped the furniture and put everything back. Getting it done! Task 2059 getting checked off this week. This is part of the process in creating our amazing little room diffusers. I’m trimming all the branches off and curing the stems. If you didn’t know, we are ridiculously passionate about finding new uses for almost everything. So, formerly loved Christmas trees will be finding a new life and love in your home or car!
