Craft brewers in Ontario are facing challenging times. Many have gone out of business in the last two years. The provincial government has come to the table with some relief in the way of lower taxes. They have also promised additional relief, but have yet to deliver.

In our hometown, we are fortunate to have Community Care-Northumberland and even more fortunate that they run Ed's House, an incredible place that helps people and their families negotiate the last days of their lives.

Late in July, the inspiration for the name Cooler By The Lake Anniversary Ale suffered what would normally be a fatal medical episode. Things looked so final that she decided to go to Ed's House for her last few days.

We're very happy to report that she rallied, kicked that beer can to the curb, and has started a new chapter in her life at a retirement residence in Port Hope, where she is on the mend.

Her name is Selena Forsyth. I just spoke with her moments ago, and she sounds phenomenal.

Something else you may not know about Selena is that she was one of the early driving forces in establishing Ed's House.
