Ghost River Aquafind Ghost River Aquafind Helps Home and Land Owners Save Money on Their Well Drilling By Using Seismoelectric Technology To Do Modern Day Well Witching.

My name is Brent Stewart. I am a born and raised, honest, hard working Alberta farm boy. When my wife and I moved onto our new ranch the well that was supposed to be a good one turned out to be only about a 1/2 a gallon a minute. This would not support the yearlings that I had planned to put out. We needed a well in an area that has dry holes drilled. I knew about water witching which is how we have always done it in the past. I thought that surely there was a new way in this day and age. After some research I found out that yes! there is now technology that finds water! I become very intrigued and did about 5 years of research on it. I became passionate about finding water through seismic. It's such a cool technology! What a blast. I chose the best equipment for our area and Ghost River Aquafind was born! I look forward to using my expertise and equipment to help you find the best spot to drill. A good driller will be able to stop at the correct depth to get you water vs someone who blows by the aquifer. Sometimes drilling a few yards away can make a difference.

Seismic sounds complicated but really I just use a small amount of gun powder to create a bit of a charge to basically wiggle the water below the surface. This can be picked up by my computer and I can then tell approximately how deep and how much the aquifer could yield.

It's not perfect but a whole lot better then throwing a rock and saying drill there!

My name is Brent Stewart and I am a farm boy born and raised north of Calgary.

When my wife and I moved onto my new property in the foothills of Alberta to be closer to the ski hills. (For my wife! A happy wife is a happy life!)

I discovered that the well on the property wasn't as good as advertised. I knew I needed to drill a new well but where?

I thought surely there is a more scientific way then the old 'well witching' my grandfather knew but it seemed that was not the case! Many drillers are told where to drill by this age old system.

I did a ton of research and found that there was in fact a way to scientifically find where to drill for better yields. But not a whole lot of people doing it.

So I purchased the equipment and learned how to use it and to quantify the data. Ghost River Aquafind was born!

Did you know .....

that some lakes are fed only by the water from the hills immediately surrounding it however other lakes may receive only a fraction of the water from the hills surrounding it.

Soil has a saturation limit. Different types of soil may have lower infiltration rates than others. Such as sand versus clay. Sand is a much larger particle than clay and as the particles settle, sand will create greater spaces than clay. These spaces allow for water to filter through more readily, increasing the hydraulic conductivity of the soil type. So the larger the particle, the easier water can flow through the soil. So some lakes are actually fed from underground aquifers depending on the soil composition in the surrounding area.

In the mountains one lake can actually feed another lake as the water from one lake seeps into the ground it can hit an impermeable layer and then flow through say gravel for the most part horizontally to the next lake!

Water it always seems easy in Alberta. Until your well runs dry or is no longer functioning.

There can be 5 GPM in one spot and 100 feet away be 12 gallons per minute!

We help customers find the best spot to drill to get the best well possible on their property.

Hello everyone!!

We are excited for the new survey season to get started. I thought I would post my standard siesmic briefing that answers most questions we get and shows a cost for our services. If anyone has any question please contact us and we will answer your questions.

Seismic Briefing

Thank you for contacting Ghost River Aquafind Inc. Here is a little more information for you and cost structure we use. Please feel free to ask for more information if we have missed anything you require.

How it works.

Unlike some seismic techniques used in oil and gas exploration this procedure is not damaging to soil structure and nearby wells. By driving steel electrodes 36” into the ground and using a large rubber hammer or several grams of black powder we can create a small seismic event into the ground that disturbs the ions in the water. This action gives off a very tiny electrical signal that we pickup through the el
ectrodes imaging the water under the ground. Because water varies widely in how much mineral it may contain it will give different electrical signals. If there is an existing well we can calibrate the equipment more accurately for the area of survey due to the already verified depth and ground structure. This isn’t always possible of course, it just makes things a little more precise with final depth or potential yield. Ultimately each sounding that images the largest quantity of water is the strongest location to drill!

2 different approaches of survey to consider.

1. If the area is known to have water. Then we are confirming that we don’t get a dry hole and find the area with the highest yield. No point in missing twice the yield by 100 feet. This would be our standard survey of 8 soundings and charge $2500 plus GST.
2. If the area is known to have very limited water. This is a situation where a larger survey, requiring more soundings, may be requested depending on the size of area available. This can be a multi day project. The cost for this is the standard survey ($2500 )then we only charge $200.00 per extra sounding needed.

The success of the survey varies according to how much water there is to be found! Keep in mind we can’t magically find large aquifers if they are not there. We simply survey and give you a report on what is already there.

The success of the survey also depends on the quality of data collected at each sounding. Ideal conditions require a complete bonding of soil to the electrodes placed into the ground. Native undisturbed soil with no rocks that has some moisture is preferred to collect the best data. The more rock, gopher and mole holes or electrical interference etc. the poorer the data collected.

Requirements of survey site before we come.

1. No overhead or underground power lines within 50 feet of each sounding. We’ll help work around this for you.
2. As we will drive steel electrodes 36” into the ground we will need utilities marked before we come. It’s a free service, just call “Click Before You Dig”. 1-800-242-3447.
3. The property owner must be present to start the survey.
4. As mentioned above the ground can’t have more than 30% large rock and be virgin undisturbed soil with no back fill.

Once we have completed the survey we will need to take the data collected back to the office in order to quantify the results and determine the depth and approximate yield of the aquifer. We usually require at least 7 days to complete the results. If time is critical we can strive to lessen this time frame for you.

Our standard billing practice requires services to be paid after the survey but before we will release the survey report.

This was an interesting project.

The client asked Brent to go back several times and in the end we did find him a couple of good options. They had neighbours that had drilled several dry wells.

If you know you have little water in the area we can certainly help however if you also just want to get the best gpm. Why drill for 5 gpm when 100 feet to the right you'll get 12 gpm?

Book us before you book your well driller!

Did you know?

That if you compare the water you see in lakes and Rivers on earth there is actually 60 times that amount of water under ground?

There is water under your feet almost everywhere you go. Some is too deep for a well but there are aquifers all over.

So even if you didn't call us first and have drilled several dry holes.

We certainly may still find water on your property for you!

Let us help save you money by finding where and an estimate on how much water you have under your feet!
