Grassy Gnome Acres Farming, family and good food - that's what we do. We love farming with our kids and producing yummy, healthy food for ourselves and our customers.

Grassy Gnome Acres is an organic farm in Coldstream, BC. Our page is to share a little about our farming life is all about and the products we produce. We'd love for people to be more connected to where their food comes from and what it means to be a farmer. We raise sheep (for wool and meat), pigs, laying hens, meat chickens and turkeys. We have a pumpkin patch in the fall, and are just getting into the world of bee keeping. There is always something new going on that keeps us on our toes.

April = Lambing time, which means late night sheep checks and days going by in a blur. I blinked and suddenly the moon had gone from new moon to almost full moon, the grass has greened up and we’re almost done lambing! Now we just need to work on a rain dance…… 🌧️ 🤞

Spectacular sunset tonight during farm chores! I don’t think the pigs appreciated it as much as I did though. It went from yellow, to orange to red with purples….and then back to darkness and fog. Sigh. The days are getting longer though, yippee.

Pumpkin Patch is OPEN 🎃

‘Yippee kai-yay’ you hear us cheer,
Pumpkin season’s finally here!
Orange ones, yellow ones and gourds with wings,
Mini’s, blue ones and lumpy pinks.
White ones, sadly, there are quite few,
This year, for some reason, they hardly grew.
The big ones might need a friend to help carry,
Corn cobs are ready, the colors vary.
As always there’s weeds, what can we say,
We try our best but they do get away.
Bring in some fall cheer from our patch to your home,
And happy pumpkin season from the ole’ Grassy Gnome! 😊

Thought I’d share a clip of our boar being a bit of a jerk today. He’s having some hormonal feelings (inspired by the sow next door), and the sound he makes terrifies me, lol. But apparently Gidget, who’s in the wallow with him, couldn’t care less.

And just like that, the Pumpkin Patch is planted! Hoping those little seeds get straight to work and start sprouting soon 🌱. If everything grows as planned, we’ll have lots of funky gourds, a rainbow of pumpkin varieties and of course some ornamental corn.

We’re slowly making headway with shearing our own sheep this year! We can only do 7/day before our legs and backs are done, but it’s progress. 😁 I thought I’d be shearing about 5 min per sheep (Chris strongly disagreed), and turns out he was right. It’s more like 20 min. So, at 6 sheep in 2 hrs, we’re basically professionals 😂. 🙄
