Fiddlehead Nursery Plants and Resources for Edible Landscapes We strive to provide the best plants to use in low-maintenance edible landscapes.

We use nature as a model to design self-maintaining and self-fertilizing food gardens that build the soil while providing the healthiest, freshest, most local food available. We host workshops at our farm in the Beaver Valley, and carry some of the best books on the subjects of permaculture, forest gardening and perennial food systems.

Cow Parsnip is a plant I use often, but seldom sell. Most folks are afraid of its ability to cause photo-sensitive skin burns, similarly to giant hogweed, to which it's related. But it's also a wonderful native perennial vegetable, much revered by Indigenous peoples across turtle island. The young growth is great, with a distinctive, excellent flavour. We batter and fry the flower buds, and use them in stir-fries.

Ground nuts are such an easy crop to grow, and increase the resilience of any home. Leave them in the ground and they'll grow and multiply until you have a big patch of high-protein, mild potato-like vegetables, ready to harvest any time you'd like. They're beautiful, climbing vines, with striking pink, edible flowers.
