🚨NEW MICROGREEN ALERT🚨

As if our menu wasn't flavorful enough we've added a new microgreen and we're giddy with excitement!!! 💃🕺

If you're a fan of East Indian food then you're going to want try Fenugreek. Fenugreek (methi) microgreens are tender and aromatic that offer a mild, sweet, and nutty curry-like flavor. If you've had butter chicken then there's no doubt you've enjoyed the flavorful taste of fenugreek.

The health benefits of this microgreen are amazing. 💪
Fenugreek microgreen is jam packed with vitamins A, C, and K, B-complex vitamins, iron, magnesium, potassium, and beneficial plant compounds.

This microgreen has a fresh taste reminiscent of celery or mild curry spices with a sweet side akin of maple syrup that softens the underlying savory spice. Fenugreek microgreen is an excellent addition to a favorite salad to give it that exotic taste or can be added in wraps and pitas.

👋

Because of the fine weather we're having on this mid September day our family decided to have a delicious salad with BBQ chicken breast for our dinner.

Our salad starts with a base of three different flavors of our own grown lettuce; crisp romaine, flavorful leafy, and ever so delicate red butterhead. Just these three lettuces together is a great salad along with your favorite vinaigrette but we didn't stop there.

To boost the flavor of our base we added five different microgreens, in the picture from left to right we have red cabbage, purple kohlrabi, arugula, kale, and broccoli... Mmm! It's already tasting good but we're not quite done yet.

We needed to add a little bit of summer citrus and something local so we added a few pieces of mandarin orange, a little bit of tomato, our own cucumber (smells so fresh and tasty), fresh locally picked Newfoundland blueberries (because those from Costco just aren't the same) and added a pop of color with red vein sorrel.

Now that's a DELICIOUS salad!

Did you know... 🤔

When cooking food whether it's boiled, fried, or baked over a high heat makes it easier for the digestive system to break it down and absorb what nutrients are left. But no matter which way the food is prepared there will be nutrient loss, that's inevitable, and depending on the size of cut will depend on how fast the nutrients are leached especially if it's boiled.

To regain some of those lost nutrients and minerals due to high heat cooking you can add a sprinkle of your favorite microgreens over your prepared meal. Microgreens have some of the highest available nutrients and minerals that the body needs and as an added bonus they taste delicious and just may give your meal that extra pop of flavor.

We started this venture in the spring of 2020, and we haven't looked back since!

To say this journey has been incredible so far, I believe is an understatement. We've learned so much about plants and how they behave in certain conditions, benefits of microgreens, understanding how to build a business, understanding about ourselves, learning new things like hydroponics, and meeting new and exciting people. There's so much more, it's just an incredible journey so far and we wouldn't trade for the world.

We hope you enjoy the few photos that we posted, just show you a glimpse of where we started to where we are today. I like to show you where we're going but you'll have to follow us for more. :)

Working with hydroponics is exciting and can be very challenging at times, a lot of what we learned is self taught and YouTube videos, but what a lot of the resources don't tell you is just how messy it can get at times.

The fun part of hydroponics is planting or sowing the seeds and watching it all grow so fast and then comes the harvesting, that's the exciting part. But the not so glamours part is the clean up. Cleaning the channels that the plants grow in and the water tubes that feed the channels. That's where a lot of the work comes into play. We spend hours every week ensuring the grow channels are ready for the seedlings because the reaction of the sunlight and the lettuce sauce create an algae that can block the feeding tubes and prevent the seedlings from accessing the vital nutrients and water it needs to grow.

We don't use any chemicals during our cleaning process just a good abrasive sponge and some elbow grease and the channels are ready again. We also don't use any insecticides or pesticides on our lettuce either as this is just the opposite of why we grow healthy food. We want it to be as natural as possible, just how nature intended. So we don't find the occasional bug while harvesting but they're harmless. Nonetheless though it's also a good practice to wash your lettuce before consuming.

We LOVE our microgreens! 😍

Back six years when we started growing microgreens we knew they were special but just didn't know how special they were. So we researched... a lot.

Turns out microgreens are natures little wonders. They're jam packed with nutrients, some as high as 40x more than their mature counter part, they have medicinal properties; that simply means because of the nutrients and minerals that they carry microgreens can help fight against disease, inflammation, and even cancer. There have been numerous scientific studies done to prove any of these theories. And best of all they just taste great and flavorful and pair well with just about any meal you can make.

So if you haven't tried microgreens before and thought of trying them now, know that your eating something that does the body good.
