I was driving aimlessly on the 2 today, heading east past Glen Walter. I’ve been thinking about my Crust & Bites review, and about promoting other pizzerias besides Cornwall Style Pizza. After all, the name is the Pizza Freak, not the Cornwall Pizza Freak. Although I am one, and I’ll be the first to admit it.
It’s time for me to spread my wings beyond Cornwall. Actively. There are excellent pizzerias all over SDG. I know, because I have my own map that I’ll be making public soon. I have so many pizzerias to visit! Like Fraser Creek Pizza Farm.
As I drove past Glen Walter this morning, I thought about them, and about how the heck I had never tried them before. Wtf Stacey?!? Located fifteen minutes from Cornwall in South Glengarry, they are truly local, with their farm serving pizza Thursday thru Sunday, using local ingredients, and drawing tons of visitors from as far away as Montreal. Their pizza is made outdoors in a wood-fired oven, on beautiful treed grounds out in the country. There is live music on Saturdays. It was time for me to introduce myself.
I pulled up the long driveway all the way to the house and parked. A man soon came out the back door, smiled, and said Just a second. I noticed kids bikes, and knew I was interrupting them on their day off. Still, I had to try.
A few minutes later, Dereck introduced himself to me, with a big smile on his face. He knew me, his family follows me online, and he was surprised to see me. His wife Laura followed, equally surprised and happy. I met two of their kids, who were shy but amused by me. I gave the kids one of my Pizza Freak Crust Rulers. We sat at a picnic table and I explained that the Pizza Freak promotes pizza in SDG too, not just Cornwall. I’ve reviewed pizza from Toronto, Hamilton, Windsor, Montreal…but now I want to go really local. I apologized for never trying their pizza before, and said I would return on Saturday with the Toronto members of my garage punk and surf band The Tijuana Bibles.
(Cheap plug, we play the Dominion in Ottawa Friday Aug. 28, with a free show at Lola’s on Saturday Aug. 29. Come see me drum and sing my head off while wearing a custom wrestling mask! We all wear them - we’ve toured Europe four times and even toured Mexico!)
I can’t wait to get to the Fraser Creek Pizza Farm on Saturday, and get my hands on one of their mushroom pizzas. All I’ve heard is rave reviews. These are the last two weekends to visit them for the season. I’m sure they’ll have pop ups during the fall and winter with their portable wood-fired pizza ovens. I’m kinda banking on it 😎
Thursday 4-8 pm
Friday 4-8 pm
Saturday 11-8 pm
Sunday 11-2 pm
We of course had other business to talk about, but now is not the time to share it. We’re all very excited though - I think this is the beginning of a nice new friendship. On Saturday, I’ll be there at 2 pm. Feel free to say hello, just look for the guy with the biggest mutton chops in SDG ♥️🍕🇨🇦
