So we tried something fun and new this year!
Long storage tomatoes 🍅

We tried a few different varieties but the two that seemed to last the longest was the Piennolo del Vesuvio, in red and giagui.
This tomato is a small, pear shaped, deep red tomato. There is a distinct vertical grove on both sides of the tomato.
A very unique tomato, it has extremely long keeping qualities and the flavor is richly sweet if allowed to fully ripen. Piennolo del Vesuvio is grown and sold in Campania, Italy as fresh or as an “al piennolo” type. To preserve off the vine for several months, remove the entire clusters when 70% of the fruit are ripe and hang in a cool, well ventilated location.
I picked these on the 15th of August, I cut into them today November 10th and they were still in great shape! The reds lasted longer than the giagu yellow type. Maybe the yellows were just a littke more ripe when picked? I also read that i was supposed to pick them when the first ones were ripe but still had a few green ones on the vine, will try that next year.
Definitely growing this variety again next year, saving these seeds.

From a large steel blue doe and a broken chinchilla buck. The buck is US lines and very large, so I anticipate very well sized offspring to come from this mix!
