Our Methods
Ethical, healthful agriculture in the Comox Valley

Tannadice Farms has established a method of farming that is ethical, sustainable and healthful. We take great care of our animals because we know that the way your food is produced has a profound effect on its nutritional value. Healthy animals produce healthy meat.

• We never feed our animals growth hormones or animal by-produc

ts, and we use antibiotics only when necessary to prevent a sick animal from suffering.

• Our Angus cattle are allowed to graze naturally, and their diet is supplemented by nutrient-rich corn silage. The result is flavourful, marbled meat that's high in conjugated linoleic acids (CLA) - powerful antioxidants that have been shown to fight cancer and even reduce body fat in humans.

• Our certified "High Health" pigs live their entire lives without being exposed to most common porcine diseases. Their "High Health" status is maintained through meticulous cleaning of their barns and regular veterinary check-ups. You'd be hard-pressed to find a healthier herd of pigs! Tannadice Farms is proud to be a part of the Comox Valley's agricultural community and encourages you to support your local farmers whenever possible. Supporting local producers keeps both your family and your community healthy. Please look for Tannadice Farms products at your favourite local restaurants and food stores. Or, make an appointment to purchase your meat directly from the farm.

Meet the First Calf of the Season!

Our first little arrival has officially made an appearance…and Mama is keeping a very close eye on her new baby.

Do you think we have a little bull calf or heifer calf?

Take your best guess and drop it in the comments!

We’ll reveal the answer soon…

Sometimes it's the smallest visitors that make the biggest impression. This little friend stopped by the farm to say hello, and we couldn't resist sharing the moment!

Life on the farm is full of these simple, unexpected joys. ❤️

Field trip!

Nothing beats watching the cows hit the ground running! It's always fun to see everyone find their way from one pasture to the next. Can you spot them running through the trees?

Fresh grass, more room to roam, and happy cows make for a pretty great day on the farm!

Take a bird's-eye view of the farm!

This drone footage was captured in early May, so while the fields aren't quite as green today, it's a fun glimpse of the farm from above and a great way to see the layout from a whole new perspective!

Thanks Nick DeWitt for capturing this fun footage !

Nothing beats the feeling of a freshly cleaned barn!

Our pigs certainly agree…they were busy exploring, rooting, and making themselves right at home after cleaning day. Happy pigs, clean pens, and plenty of curious snouts make all the hard work worth it!

Cows thrive on high-quality forage, and strip grazing maximizes this by using a movable electric fence to provide a fresh "strip" of pasture daily. This method prevents cattle from trampling or overgrazing the field, ensuring more uniform nutrient intake. By allowing grazed areas to rest and recover, farmers significantly improve soil health and overall forage yield.

Pig of the Week: Clancy!

Meet Clancy, our Duroc boar with a big personality and even bigger genetics! Durocs are well known for producing high-quality pork with excellent marbling, tenderness, and flavour…traits that made Clancy stand out right from the start.

His name was chosen by Nick, and “Clancy” comes from Irish origins meaning “son of the red warrior,” which suits this handsome red boar perfectly.

Clancy made quite the journey to join the farm, flying in from Saskatchewan as a young weaner pig from Fast Genetics. He arrived in a dog crate on WestJet and was carefully selected for his strong genetics and quality bloodlines.

We’re excited to watch this guy continue to grow and contribute to the farm!

Fresh pasture day! The cows and calves were on the move AGAIN after completely mowing down the grass in their last field. It’s amazing how quickly a herd can turn a lush pasture into “nothing left to see here.” 😆
