Flaghill Ranch Grass Fed Beef

Flaghill Ranch Grass Fed Beef Grass fed & finished angus beef, raised on our family ranch with out the use of any added hormones. What is Grass Fed Beef?

The idea behind grass fed beef is that the animal is fed only pasture grassland and hay in the winter time. At Flaghill we make all our own hay, so you can trust your beef has been fed the very best at every stage of their growth. Our beef is typically slaughtered at 20-22 months of age which allows their muscle to grow slowly, creating superior quality meat. Our Ranch

Flaghill Ranch is a family

farm in East Central Alberta that prides itself in raising high quality Black Angus Cattle. These cattle formerly known as Aberdeen Angus were imported to Canada from Scotland in the 1800's. The development of the railroad across Canada, also allowed for cattle to be imported on steam ships and brought west to pasture. Black Angus cattle have been a popular staple in the Canadian cattle industry ever since! Angus are known for their docile disposition, good mothering, and great tasting meat. This breed boasts very uniform marbling, which is the important distribution of fat through the meat. The meat produced by Flaghill Ranch is no exception, our cuts are tender, juicy, and sure to please! Ranchers at the turn of the century were forced to leave a calving cow behind on a trail drive. They carefully tied a rag on a willow bush to mark the area they would return to for the cow and her new calf. The willow bush was growing atop a hill in the vast prairies and soon the ranch, Flaghill came to be. Flaghill Ranch was initially established in 1903 by our Grandad's dad, Bert Smyth who started homesteading the land where we currently ranch. He grazed steers on the same grassland our cows thrive on to this day. Our family began building our current herd in the 1980's and we are continually pleased with the generations of strong mothering cows raising high quality beef for your family.

This picture isn’t cute… but it shows just how involved our family is from birth to butcher in our beef program. Together we make ranching decisions for the soil and for the cattle, together we deal with the heartbreak of animal loss and drought, but through it all we show up everyday to bring the best beef to the table for your family.

We put together a little FAQ from the most common things we’ve been asked in the last 3 months.

We sure appreciate when y’all share our posts with friends and family- not for just more s**t content to laugh at but because it truly helps our business 🫶

It’s simple for us we want simple ingredients (hello whole foods) and we are cutting the fillers we used to fall for. If it’s not serving a specific nutritional purpose then it’s not on the plate.

There’s a million holistic nutritionists out there that can explain why these foods are great, but for us it’s healthy fats.

Sticking to ancestral eating methods to balance nutrients rather than following trends, fads and big business.

Sneaky little beef plug- who knew there was so many nutritional ways to eat beef that wasn’t prime rib steak?

Grass finished beef starts in utero on quality nourishment for the pregnant cow. And yes in Canada it means green grass, brown grass, over wintered grass, dry forage, fermented forage, but, NO seed oils, NO grains, NO distillers screenings.
