The world over the best wines are grown on the edge. The edge of what i am often asked? The answer is on the edge of disaster. Grapes for great wines are not found in lovely pastoral settings. Great wines come from grapes that suffer. The soils are lean. Rocks are plentiful. The vines are exposed to torturing sun. And rainfall is almost nil during the growing season. This is a bloc of cab franc at the top of our Bathie vineyard site.
