UPDATE:
The Directors were very supportive of Good Company’s application, and now we just have to wait for the ALC’s decision. Thank you all for your support!!
Friends!
It came to my attention this morning that the RDCK is NOT planning to vote in favor of Good Company Coffee’s application to remain open in their Erickson location. This is going to be a devastating decision to many of us, and will impact our local tourism, economy, musicians, and even our fundraising efforts for local charities.
The meeting has begun, but please keep sending letters as we need your help. I’ve Included the link below.
Dear Directors,
I am writing to express my deep concern regarding the RDCK’s vote today to not forward Good Company Coffee’s application to the Agricultural Land Commission.
This decision would prevent Good Company from continuing to operate at their Erickson location—an outcome that will be devastating not only to my business but to many other small businesses in Creston.
Since Good Company’s recent closure, our team at Luv at First Bite has already been significantly impacted. We are a small staff of 3–4, yet we can no longer afford to keep everyone working. We have fallen behind on supply payments, have been unable to purchase our usual quantities of fall produce from local farms, and have lost product due to sudden changes in demand. We also lost the additional treat orders we would normally provide for the live music events that were cancelled. The ripple effect has been substantial and deeply felt.
Our business relies heavily on the success of the local retailers we supply. Each location receives unique, custom-made treats, and Good Company plays a key role in helping us reach customers throughout the valley. Their Erickson location has long been an anchor for our daily operations and community connection.
Since Good Company first opened in Erickson, I have been fortunate to enjoy a daily routine that keeps me closely connected to our community. Every morning, we deliver fresh baking and are greeted by regular customers—along with the flower farm’s cat, who famously waits for his warm scone. We often meet tourists who tell us that they have adjusted their travel routes specifically to visit Good Company. One couple even stayed overnight in Creston, enjoying a local brewery, just so they could experience their morning coffee with Good Company’s orchard view. That same beautiful view was even featured on Season 7 of The Great Canadian Baking Show.
After our delivery and morning coffee, we visit two to three local fruit stands to purchase the freshest produce for the day’s baking. Good Company’s location is woven into the rhythm of our operations and into the broader network of small businesses that support one another here.
We respectfully and sincerely ask that you reconsider this decision. Allowing Good Company to continue operating in its original Erickson location supports not only their business, but the many small local businesses—and the community members and visitors—who rely on the vibrancy they bring to our valley.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
