And if you guessed we unboxed an extractor last week, you are right! 🎉 We’ve got it set up in our Honey House and it’s almost ready to go.

This new investment will bring even more efficiency to our honey production, and our team is sooo excited! Just look at the smile on everyone’s face – especially Bethan! 😊

The first Kootenay Wildflower Honey of the 2026 vintage is ready — pure, raw, unpasteurized, local and oh so delicious! ✨

Jeff and I produce our signature honey right here in the beautiful Creston Valley. Our healthy bees collect nectar from alfalfa, snowberry, clover, sweet clover, vetch and many more wildflowers between May and August.

Woohoo! Jeff and Andrii started extracting the first honey of the season and it is bee-autiful! We’ll be bottling this year’s vintage soon and can’t wait to share it with you all.

Honey Bee Zen is officially available in the Passages gift shops on BC Ferries! Our team set sail and made some waves on July 31st, providing almost 150 samples onboard the Tsawwassen to Schwartz Bay route. Thank you to everyone who stopped by for a taste!

We were so honoured and proud to provide honey to the team who created the fundraising evening’s extraordinary menu, including legendary chefs Michel Jacob and Pino Posteraro, Maj Yee, Van Doren Chan and Peter Dickson. Featured dishes included Tuna Tartare with our Hot Honey, Braised Short Ribs marinated with our Harvest Moon Honey, and a Palate Cleanser prepared with our Kootenay Wildflower Honey.

LEAN 101 ⚙️

Our team participated in the Canadian Manufacturers & Exporters’ Lean 101 Program and obtained our Yellow Belt Level! Our awesome instructor Dinosha taught us the Lean concepts of customer focus, information and material flow, and waste elimination.

JEFF’s INTERVIEW on CBC 📻

As the Director of the BC Honey Producers Association and BC Director for the Canadian Honey Council, Jeff was interviewed by CBC’s Kelowna host, Sarah Penton, on July 22nd. He was asked about the potential impact of Donald Trump’s newest 50% tariff on Canada and what it could mean for Canadian honey exports to the US. His view? Remain calm and carry on — in our most Canadian way.

🐝 Celebrating our 9th Anniversary at Swan Valley Honey

Jeff and I are so grateful today – and every day! – for our team and community here in the Kootenays. 💛

We are proud that we, as beekeepers, honey producers, and industry advocates, can directly contribute to our region’s agriculture and economy 🌱🐝.

And more importantly, our community has become a big part of our everyday life since we made Creston our home. Jeff and I value the importance of showing up for neighbours and friends, and building relationships and friendships beyond our hives.

A huge thanks to our team – Olha, Andrii, Bethan, Oliver and Sandra – who are as passionate and connected to Swan Valley Honey as we are. We truly couldn’t do this without you all. 💛🐝

🐝 It’s been super busy Beehind the Hive as we’re getting ready to extract this season’s honey 🍯—very soon!

Jeff explains how he and Andrii recently merged a queenless hive with a nucleus colony:
💡… a common beekeeping technique used to save the bees from a struggling hive by combining them with a healthy, queen-right colony.

Why?
🐝 Bolsters the overall bee population
🍯 Preserves valuable resources
💪 Prevents the queenless hive from eventually dying out
🛡️ Prevents the hive from being robbed by pests like wasps

What is a Nucleus Colony? (commonly called a “nuc”)
🐝 A miniature, fully functioning honey bee colony.
👑 Usually housed in a 3 to 5-frame box, it contains a laying queen, worker bees at all life stages, developing brood, and food stores.
🌱 Serves as an established starter base to easily expand or start a new hive.
🍯✨ We’ll keep you posted right here as we prepare for our first honey harvest! Soooo exciting!!
