Did you know - Not all farm-fresh pork is created equal?

Buying directly from a farmer can be a bit confusing—we have our own lingo!

So I created a free 2 part Guide to help you Buy Better Pork directly from the farmer.

You just need to know what to ask the farmer and the processor.

That way, you get what you are actually looking for and avoid any surprise charges.

A 13-year-old just made history in the show ring.

Landry Mabry took home Grand Champion at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, and then sold his prize-winning pig for a staggering $505,000, setting a world record.

The moment capped off years of early mornings, hard work, and dedication in the barn, proving that for these young exhibitors, it’s about a lot more than just showing livestock.

That’s not just a sale… that’s a life-changing moment.

Beyond the Ham: My favourite way to use a Pork Leg Roast 🍎🥘

I think a fresh pork leg is so underrated. It holds its shape perfectly for cubing, and I managed to stretch a 4lb roast into 14 servings this week.

With a "lost" can of cider I found at the bottom of my fridge, a few simple ingredients and an old Flemish secret, I made an amazing Pork in Cider Stew.

The recipe (and that Flemish trick) is on my blog now!

These piglets are 6 weeks old now and although we can wean them we prefer to wait till they are about 8 weeks old. Hopefully the weather will be a bit warmer then.

They are already pretty independent and are usually off exploring by themselves but I managed to get a pic of them with their mum. 🙂

I'm ready for the thaw! We are so grateful to our neighbour who clears the snow in our yard so we can get out!

Yorkshire Puddings cooked in home rendered Berkshire lard of course, and these were made with flour from Better Basics Organic Milling Co. So so good!

And because having piglets born in winter doesn't bring enough choas!

It's not an ideal time. I much prefer spring and summer farrowings but this girl had a lovely litter of 8 and they are doing great. They thrived through the minus 30s last week under a deep bed of straw.

No cute little birds chirping the morning chorus for us!

We did a thing! We made a "Hoggit house"
Will it work? Who knows.

The pigs dig into the ground in winter so no point using a wood or concrete base.

We put this shelter in a bank and surrounded with soil.

Usually it just has a tarp over it but they do rip tarps.. the last one was heavy duty and lasted 2 years.

We will see how it goes! 🤞
