Tonight’s adventure… 🐷😂

Dinner’s cooking, kids are playing, dogs are barking… and wait, what’s that sound?! Who’s honking out in the driveway?!

It’s our neighbour, letting us know there are FIVE pigs casually strolling up the dirt road that might belong to us. 🤦‍♂️🐷🐷🐷🐷🐷

Sure enough… they’re ours!

Thank goodness for the head rope I’ve never had to use until tonight! 😂 I managed to wrangle our biggest pig and start leading her back home, while Anna jumped into the driver’s seat to help keep the other end secure and gently drive the pigs forward when the piglets decided they weren’t quite ready to cooperate.

It was some pretty awesome father-daughter teamwork!! I’m pretty proud of that girl! ❤️

Once we got the big pig (Pumpkin) moving in the right direction, the little ones eventually followed along, and all 5 future bacon stars are now back home, safe and sound for the night! 🥓⭐️

Soooo incredibly thankful for good neighbours, a great community, and kids who aren’t afraid to jump in and help when the pigs decide to go on an evening adventure! 😂❤️

Pretty excited about this year’s chickens. We’ve never processed and then pieced out our chickens. It took a lot more time than I would like to admit, but together as we learned the ins and outs of the cuts, it became easier.

There is over 60lbs of chicken breasts, drumsticks and wings - plus we made enough stock / broth from a year…

And that was only 23 of this year’s meat birds. We still have a lot to process over the next few weeks. This first batch processed was at 9weeks and they averaged at about 5lbs (heaviest was 6.2lbs).
