This was my worst experience yet with meat birds and I have raised them many times. I started off with 32 so this definitely sucks. Since most of my loss was after 5 weeks old it almost cost me double to raise each of the birds I sent to get processed because I fed the ones I lost for almost the entire time. I only kept these ones for 8 weeks, typically I keep them for 9. I did cancel my order for my next set and I ordered a new batch from a different feed store that I know uses a different supplier, just in case that was a possible issue. Other than that I am not sure what I would do differently since I always raise them the same with no issue.
I am still ending up with pasture raised meat which I am very thankful for. Fingers crossed 🤞 things go better with my next set.

We pick up Loop every second Tuesday. It’s a program that connects farmers with grocery stores to reduce food waste in the landfills. My pigs and chickens are the main ones that benefit from the program, but on occasion my goats will like something, and carrots and apples always go to Sunny.

Automatic waterers are a big help when it comes to cutting down chore time on the farm. We use these for our chickens as well.

Now that they have had their haircuts, the sheep are finally out of the barn. Also, I have a ram lamb looking for a new home. He’s North Country/Shetland cross.

The pigs are usually the last animals to wake up on the farm and it’s not uncommon for me to have to call them for their breakfast. 😆 🐖 😴 🥞

Today I got the bridle on Sunny. He is used to having a bridle on from racing, but it has been a while. He played a lot with the bit and actually seemed a little annoyed with it, as his mood changed a tad, but it also did start to sprinkle rain at the same time. I am using an egg butt snaffle, but maybe I’ll try something a little softer, rubber possibly 🤷🏻‍♀️ He did a great job with me sitting on him again 😊Today I also tried long reining. I have never done this before but Sunny has. It was how he was typically walked back to the barn after races. I really had no idea what I was doing and we did have a little bit of success with it, as seen in the video, but I also think I might have confused him with my lack of knowledge with it. He was unsure because I was unsure and then he stopped moving forward, and that was about it 😂 For our first time I’d say we did ok. Next time I think I will long line him up and down the driveway so we don’t have to do any turning, just focus on the forward movement with the tack on . I ended the session just sitting in the pen chatting to him and I think for both of us, that was the best part 💕

This was the first time we used the new clamp on forks we ordered off Amazon. They worked really well and saved a lot of time with the barn chores yesterday. I would definitely recommend these if you are looking for a cheap easy attachment for your bucket. Product link posted in comments

When ever I see ads about horses that are hard to catch in pasture, I feel lucky my horse listens better than my dog 😆
