A lesson I've learned about young pullets, don't write them off if their egg colour starts a little light. The bottom egg is the first egg one of my spring pullets laid and the top is the colour she laid the next day. They've consistently gotten darker and are as dark or darker than the top egg, consistently. If this girl wasn't the only Marans lady in this pen, I would have guessed these eggs were from two different pullets. Chickens are cool. 😅❤️

Patrick and his lady. This handsome fella is a new addition to our flock this year. ☺️

He has exceptional Copper colouring, nice feathered legs and no leakage. We have been breeding away from over-melanized birds (his lady lacks copper plumage, however she lays an exceptionally dark mahogany egg). We continue to select for birds that bring us closer and closer to the SOP, without jeopardising egg colour.

When touring the Norfolk County Fair & Horse Show I was shocked to see there weren't any turkeys. I guess 2027 may be the year that I figure out how to exhibit my poultry.

Around here my kids take mud kitchens to the next level. Chicken feed, eggs, meal worms and any chicken friendly ingredients they can get their hands on to make their feathered friends a delicious snack. They call it "guck" and the chickens (turkeys, ducks and geese) thoroughly enjoy it.

We've been a bit quiet over here, but we have some exciting news. Our first homegrown Pilgrim goslings have hatched. ❤️ Meet Meeky and Beaky. Named just hours out of the incubator, I don't think they're going anywhere. 😅

With that being said, we may have a couple available from our next hatch. Pm me if you're interested!

When your 4 year old asks if they can take their pet chicken "Izzy" for a car ride, naturally you say yes, right? 🤣

Context: We were loading up to go pick up a bag of chicken feed when Izzy (the chicken) jumped into the car. This has become a routine occurrence, largely because children leave crumbs behind and Izzy and Molly the chickens have discovered that cars are a food source. When Izzy (the chicken) jumped into the car today, Izzy the child caught her and then proceeded to ask if she could go for a ride. In an effort for childhood me to live vicariously through my children, I said yes and zero regrets were had.
