August is a fun month as we prepare mentally and physically for our fall harvest. We aren't quite at the point where we are harvesting every crop we grow, but the crossover season is coming!

1. Taking a little break in the bean field
2. Dreamy Pollinator Cover Crop
3. Friday morning greens harvest
4. Yellow onions!
5. No more potato tops!
6. Always have to try the watermelon to make sure it's good!
7. Cabbage toss
8. Last Fall radicchio planting
9. Park Barbecue!!
10. Missing crew members, but a nice time together regardless 💚

July on the farm... some days feel endless yet it’s gone in a blink. So much to do, constantly prioritizing and reprioritizing.

It’s the feeling the excitement of each new crop that is ready and also feeling the weight of endless beds of beans to harvest and winter carrots to w**d.

July, you were perfectly perfect as to what July is, with no hidden surprises, and for that we are grateful. Intense, busy, full- will be missing this feeling come a foggy December day.

August brings a little less w**ding, transplanting and irrigating and letting the harvest wash over us. To cracking open watermelon during an afternoon break, to field Roma harvest, to mountains of colourful peppers and to dewy mornings and changing light.

We ready!

📸July Snaps:

Bean Harvest- iykyk It can be one of the most discouraging jobs or the most meditative. It can feel like it takes an hour to go 50’ or you can feel like you become one with the sea of beans that lay before you. Choose your adventure.

Walla Walla’s- what can you say. They are a beautiful crop to grow. In July... when the w**ds are small.

Buckwheat Covercrop in the Tunnel- all about that Organic Matter 🪱🌀

Tractor Safety Check surprises, on brand new tires 🫠Thankfully no puncture 🤩 Crack in the ol radiator tank and other adventures; about $8K and counting on the ol’ equipment bill this summer.

Post Harvest Allocations- keeping track of where everything is going and adding even more on busy stand days. 📋✅

Carrots & Lindsay- again what can you say. We have an epic team of folks who tend, care for and make all this sustenance happen. ✨✨✨

Spider Mite on the Cukes- bios are still valently fighting with the occasional fallen soldier being ripped out to preserve the rest.

Cabbage Field; looking so nice this year. Coming out of a 3 year Grassland Set-aside, relatively w**d free. 🌾

Checked the field this week and things are coming along!

By the end of August we’ll start to harvest and then it’s threshing month all through September before these fiber filled legumes are cleaned up and ready.

And for a summer treat… we will have fresh borlotti coming in about 2-3 weeks. IYKYK 💕
