Fall Nursery sale on October 10th. In addition this year will include
Farm Tours with fruit tasting and seasonal fruit for sale: apples, quince, hardy kiwis.

The Annual Fall Sale will be October 10th. Come on out for some in-person browsing and some touring of the Farm. Looking at what's growing here in the orchards is a great way to see how trees actually turn out when they grow up: its great for planning your own plantings.

I'll plan on doing a tour at 9am and another tour at 2pm

The images here are a view of the orchard with purple spartan apple, chinese hawthorn and amber autumn olive. The top right image is an Autumn Olive/Silverberry that I grew from seed. It turned out to have a unique color presentation: not the usual straight red or straight yellow of the regular cultivars. The of course the mighty Bruce's late italian prune plum -not grafted!.

Kate at Denman Island Heritage Apples will also be doing a Fall sale on the same day for those of you who have really specific desires in the realm of apple cultivars.

Ive updated some of the fall inventory on the website. Some really nice novel bareroot in the apples, plums, peaches and mulberries. New numbers with regular stuff like all the currants and grapes. There's going to be a ton of mashua and oca.

Our summer food forestry workshops have wrapped up: The first was on edible perennials and the second was on water management. We had 2 batches of enthusiastic participants and lots of learning and fun was had.

Big thanks to both Nutcase Nursery and The Snag for hosting evening tours and Imas Kitchen, Two Roads Farm and Jill (of TreeEater) for all the local foods.

An interesting note on seedling variation: LOOK at the thorns on these seed grown sechuan peppers! They just popped out everywhere on year 3: even on top of the leaves! Regular cloned sechuan peppers do not have thorns like this.

Is anyone else experiencing unusually high -off the charts- bird pressure on their berry crops this year? They're taking everything here, through the nets. Stuff they've never wanted before.
