Alice Marie .ca is a Gerrard East bakery cafe named after co-owner & head pastry chef Rachelle’s grandmother Alice Marie. The menu is inspired by Rachelle’s baking with her grandmother and also seasonality.

What’s on offer changes to highlight either what’s booming in the world of local produce right now or what once was during warmer months and has since been preserved by them to use now!

I’ve only been twice, ironically both times with Lindsey lol so these photos reflect those two visits.

I’d say our two favourite things from our recent visit were the ‘Nduja Spinach Galette (filled with ricotta and chimichurri) and the Ricotta Basque Cheesecake (got that hint of lemon in there, super creamy).

Also pictured:
Raspberry Pistachio Breakfast Cake
Cheddar Chive Scone
Coffee & goodies from our first ever visit

And if you scroll to the end, my random run in with Jen here last year when we both happened to go on the same day😭

Wok with me! Documenting my first time cooking with a wok cause I’ve always wanted to, but my friend Anna said I look terrified the whole time — she’s not wrong.

Making laap (a Lao meat salad) with no actual recipe just my ✨intuition✨ from eating it all the time at my Uncle’s restaurant haha, I feel the ancestral pull to the wok okay!!! Now I need to get one (and a gas stove) so I can work on my skills :)

The Shengjian Bao from Sang-Ji Fried Bao are a huge cold weather craving of mine. They’re filled with soup after all!

The half soft, half crispy dough has a juicy meat-based filling that is traditionally pork, but they offer a total of 4 varieties here (note: none are vegetarian-friendly).

A crunchy golden brown bottom gives this dumpling the most lovely chew. The perfect compliment is their housemade black vinegar. I adore how the soup just FLOWS out of them.

Bao is in their name, but don’t sleep on the noodles either! On our most recent visit Amy and I tried their new meat peppercorn sauce noodles and they were sooooo rich🤩

There’s a North York and downtown Toronto location, how lucky are we! They often run deals as well, making their food even more accessible :)

If you’re visiting Granada, Spain, a stop at La Bodega de Antonio for tapas is a must. The most delicious tapas we had while traveling through the Andalusia region in December, only made better by brilliant company.

Granada is known for its tapas culture. When you order a drink you’re served “surprise” tapas alongside it. An exciting way to try local cuisine because you’re not selecting dishes yourself. Here we would order a pitcher of their house white wine (Ribeiro) served in a chilled ceramic pig jug (cerdito).

Met Kristine and Emma who were also solo travelling and we became a little trio that went everywhere together, this became our local spot every night as we quickly befriended the staff as well, despite the language barrier. We were the only tourists inside every time.

I’ve never had a go-to frequented spot while travelling before, so that only highlights how special this place was for us.

This is literally an assortment of almost all the dishes we tried here:

Pastel Moruno — a Moorish-style meat pie in a flaky pastry. Sweet and savoury, this one had pork, pumpkin seeds, raisins, and more. This was the dish that got us to return. The red sauce on the side was also amazing.

Flamenquín Casero — Andalusian fried pork and serrano ham rolls filled with cheese.

A stewed pork dish.

Seafood paella with gorgeous pieces of artichoke.

Chicken in mushroom gravy.

Ensaladilla Rusa, a Russian potato tuna salad.

Flan con Nata — a homemade pudding for dessert. Not a tapa!

Went to the Evergreen Brick Works farmer’s market for the first time this past Saturday with Sari! It runs from 8am to 12pm every week and there was such a good variety of vendors. We went because she found out they were doing a little Tomato Tasting Festival, it was so cute. We tried a bunch of tomatoes and voted on our favourites. Funny enough, we ran into my uncles here too!

We grabbed lunch and a couple snacks, listed below:

stracciatella, cacciatore, bread
tigernut milk
drip coffee
mutton roll & veggie samosa
olive oil & olive tapenade
arugula & vegan caesar dressing

There’s a lot of seating areas and you could easily spend your day visiting the market and going on a really nice walk around the park. I just love a summer market!!

Your sign to grab some Chinese BBQ & sit in Riverdale Park with a friend :)

We got roasted pork, bbq pork, tofu, chicken wings, and some broccoli for balance of course. They’ve got combo deals for the bbq, as well as a hot foods counter!
