💧 Not every important job is the exciting one.

We’ve missed most of the good rain this summer, so today found us out in the peony rows… hand watering plants that won’t produce a single bloom until next spring.

With so many other projects calling our name, it would have been easy to put this job off but healthy peonies next Spring depend on the care they receive right now. They’re already busy storing energy in their roots, preparing for another season of those beautiful blooms we all look forward to.

Flower farming is full of jobs that no one sees—watering, weeding, fertilizing and caring for plants months before they ever produce a flower. They may not make for the most exciting photos, but they’re some of the most important work we do.

Here’s hoping Mother Nature sends us a good soaking rain soon. Until then, we’ll keep doing what needs to be done, one row at a time. 🌿💗

Thank You, Dresden! 💐

What a fun evening at the Dresden Fair Market yesterday!

Thank you to everyone who stopped by our booth, picked up flowers, shared a kind word or simply came by to say hello. Your support of our little flower farm means the world to us.

It wasn’t every day you could shop for flowers while a camel was strolling through the market! 🐪 It definitely added a little extra fun and gave everyone something to smile about.

A big thank you to the organizers, volunteers, vendors and everyone who came out to support local. We’re excited to see this market continue to grow and we’re already looking forward to an even bigger and better Dresden Fair Market next year!

The Beautiful Chaos Behind Market Day 🌸

If you’ve ever wondered what it takes to get ready for market… here it is! 😅

Buckets everywhere, flowers covering every surface, tools scattered around and a whole lot of organized (??) chaos. Market prep isn’t always pretty, but watching it all come together is one of our favourite parts of the week.

After hours of harvesting, conditioning, sorting and arranging, the cooler is finally full of fresh bouquets ready to head to market. 💐

We can’t wait to share this week’s flowers with you!

Hydrangeas and the Dresden Fair Market 🌿

One of our most talked about flowers that we (usually) don’t sell…..

Hydrangeas.

Every market, without fail, someone points to them and asks, “Are those for sale?”

The answer is usually no.

Not because we don’t love them—they’re one of the most beautiful flowers we grow—but because hydrangeas can be surprisingly fussy once they’re cut. We never want someone to take home flowers that won’t perform the way they should.

That said… every now and then you’ll spot them tucked into one of our bouquets or posy jars. When we know they’ve been harvested under the right conditions, we take the chance—and then we keep our fingers crossed that they behave themselves once they get to their new home. 🌿🤞

Here are a few of the tricks we use to give them the best chance of lasting:

💧 Harvest after a good rain whenever possible. Well-hydrated plants make all the difference. You might get soaked in the process by it’s worth it!

✂️ Cut directly into a clean bucket of fresh water.

🌿 Make a small vertical slit in the bottom of each stem to help improve water uptake.

❄️ Let them rest in a cool, dark place for several hours (or overnight) before arranging. That hydration time is often the difference between droopy blooms and stunning ones.

Hydrangeas may be high maintenance, but when they cooperate, they’re hard to beat. 💙

This Saturday, they’ll be decorating our booth at the Dresden Fair Market from 3:00–9:00 PM in the Old Casino Parking Lot. Stop by to admire them, say hello and pick up a bouquet or posy jar—who knows, you just might find a hydrangea tucked inside

The Unsung Heroes of the Bouquet 🌿

Fresh flowers may steal the spotlight but every beautiful bouquet has a quiet supporting cast. We think foliage is what completes a bouquet.

This little corner of the farm is where we grow most of the foliage and filler that gives our bouquets shape, texture and that lush, garden-picked feel. Without it, our bouquets would simply be a handful of (very pretty) stems.

This is the little area where The Flower Bar was first started and its role has changed as we have grown. If we’re being honest… it has been a little neglected over the last few seasons. While we’ve focused on growing more flowers, this backbone of the farm has quietly done its job without much attention.

This year, that’s changing.

Over the coming months (hopefully 🤞)….we’ll be dividing overgrown plants, adding new varieties, improving the pathways and turning this space into a productive cutting garden that’s just as beautiful as the bouquets it helps create.

Because the “supporting cast” also deserves a standing ovation 💚

We can’t wait to share the transformation with you.

This week has been one of those weeks that reminds us just how challenging flower farming can be.

Long before the stand opens, we’re out in the fields harvesting, watering, weeding and trying to stay one step ahead of the heat. By midday, we’re looking for every bit of shade we can find, but the workload doesn’t stop. 🥵🥵

There are moments when you wonder why you chose a job that’s so physically demanding… and then you walk into a row of flowers just beginning to bloom.

This week, it was the sunflowers. 🌻

After months of planting, growing and waiting, we’re finally harvesting our very first sunflowers of the season. They sure took their time this year! Seeing those bright yellow blooms makes every hot day (almost…) worth it

💐 The Flower Bar is re-open today and our bouquets in the stand include our own fresh-cut sunflowers!

If you’re out and about today, stop by. If you do, know that every bouquet represents hours of work, plenty of sweat and a whole lot of love.
