The grass is finally turning green after some much needed rain! All the pairs are out to pasture now which is a sigh of relief, with that being said I’d love to have you out for a tour of the cattle and see the mommas in their working clothes happy on grass! The beer is always cold and the coffee is always hot, Get in touch if you want to come for a pasture tour!

Calving is done on both the purebred and commercial herds now, breeding season has been going on for a month on the purebred side of things now and the commercials will need to get processed and turned out with bulls here in the next couple weeks. In the mean time here’s some calf photos because why not?!

I have one yearling available private treaty, this is the first time he’s been offered. He’s out of purebred stock but is selling unregistered and he cannot be registered.

Here’s some of the current calves on the ground, except the photos are a month old already, time seems to be flying by. My purebred calves this year are sired by two of my prover herdsires HF Payoff 81K a son of HF Alcatraz 60F and Peak Dot Big River 3L a son of Ellingson Big River 0052. My Big River sons were well received in this years sale and I have many full siblings on the ground this year that I’m very excited about!

Well I’ve been busy increasing my herd bull battery this spring. I couldn’t be happier to have these three new bulls walking the pastures at Opal Cattle Co.
First purchase of the season was Collins Kodiak 2511 and sometimes swinging back to old proven genetics is just what a person needs and he is one smoke show of a bull.
Second up W Sunrise Incentive 237N a bull I couldn’t help but admire greatly when I was down to tour through those pens, when a bull has an end of March birthdate and still holds his own, and if not out powers some of his penmates you can’t help but want to take him home.
And finally today’s purchase Riverside Below Zero 13N, and what a bull he is. I honestly didn’t think I’d have any shot at taking this meat machine home and I couldn’t be happier I had the chance to purchase him out of the great Riverside program!
I’m very excited about the future of these three great herdsires and the impact they will have in my herd. Thank you to Clint and Anna, Tanner and Megan, as well as the whole Stigings Crew for having such great animals and fantastic sales this spring!

Happy Easter Everyone!

Things have been chaotic around here but I’m starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel, with both sales wrapped up now and calving winding down to the last 15-20 it’s starting to slow down finally. Breeding season is coming close and I’m looking forward to making some exciting crosses this year.
One of these days I will get the camera out and show off some of the current calves on the ground but I haven’t gotten that far yet!

It’s SALE DAY!

We would all love to have you join us today for the Prairie Select Multi-Breed Bull & Female! Lunch is at 11:30 with the sale to follow at 1:00, if you can’t make it to the sale it will be broadcast live on DLMS! The sale is at the Agrim Centre in Rimbey!

On offer there is a great selection of bulls including, Black and Red Angus, Shorthorn, and Herefords. As well as multiple groups of ready to breed open heifers including purebreds and commercials of all three breeds as well!

The Prairie Select Bull & Female Sale is this Sunday March 29th in Rimbey at the Agrim Centre! One offer are Angus bulls and females, Shorthorn bulls and females, as well as Hereford bulls and select groups of ready to breed commercial heifers. Lunch is at 11:30 with the sale to follow at 1:00pm

I’m very excited to be offering six open heifers, three are registered and three are commercials all out of the top of my replacement pen and their dams are all top notch cows from both the purebred and commercial herds around here

The heifers will be in Rimbey on Saturday by lunch time and they will be available for viewing all afternoon Saturday as well as Sunday before the sale. If you have any questions please get in touch with myself or anyone from the sales team!

I was able to add some new females to my herd on Monday from Rio Grande Angus and I’m super excited about these beautiful ladies! When I saw these two on offer I knew I had to jump on it, so I’m happy to announce I’ve added Collins Erica 2504 a direct HF Kodiak 5R daughter and Collins Pearl Enechor 2507 a direct HF Tiger 5T daughter to the herd. Thank you to Clint and Anna for offering these two heifers, I can only imagine how hard it was to part with these two ladies!
I’m looking forward to their future here at Opal Cattle Co!
