It’s cherry season on the farm. We’ve picked and processed over 100 lbs so far. Supper was Cherry Thyme Chicken, and it was yummy!

Turkey freedom day! Today we moved our turkeys from their big brooder bin to the great outdoors. They were so curious as they explored their new their new surroundings all clustered together.

A very exciting time on the farm. Day old turkey poults, bronze and white, and four new layer breeds as “teachers”. Turkeys need teachers to help them learn to eat and drink… Layers are White Silkie, Golden Laced Cochin, Copper Maran and Golden Laced Wyandotte. Two breeds have feathers on their feet! All are very adorable.

Project hatching. We saw the most glorious Lavender Orpington hens this spring. So, we were fortunate to find some eggs to hatch from D & J Farms. Check back in three weeks for all the fluffiness.

Delivering straw, rolled barley, layer feed and protein pellets (pellets supplied off farm) today! Oh, and a ladder rack for a pickup. Huzzah!

Adaptation gardening resonates with me. I guess it’s what we’ve been growing here for years, without an official title. Go and check out Going to Seed! https://goingtoseed.org/collections/2026-canada-collection I’ve been saving dry beans, peas and a few others over the years, and I would definitely say those saved seeds grow stronger and healthier here.

These are both Tendergreen Improved green bush bean seeds from our garden. Yet, there is a definite colour difference. On the top, saved in 2023. That saved seed planted, resulting in seeds on the bottom saved in 2025. So interesting. Anyone have a reasonable explanation?
