Happy National Scotch Day!

We believe there's never a bad time to raise a dram (responsibly), but today it feels a little extra special.

National Scotch Day is observed every year on July 27th, commemorating the first recorded mention of Scotch whisky in the Exchequer Rolls of Scotland in 1494.

This historic entry details that Friar John Cor from Lindores Abbey in Newburgh received 8 bolls of malt for distilling purposes.

The malt was intended to produce approximately 400 modern-sized bottles of Aqua Vitae ("water of life" in Latin) for King James IV of Scotland (the first famous 'whisky' drinker).

This commission holds significance as Aqua Vitae is considered the precursor to modern Scotch (and is still a distinctive spirit produced at Lindores today).

Fast forward 500-ish years, and Scotch whisky remains one of the most popular spirits worldwide, standing as an enduring symbol of quality and tradition.

Welcome to the club.

Whisky Drop was founded by a team of independent whisky experts with over thirty years experience in the whisky business as retailers and educators. Our goal to deliver outstanding, hard to find whisky directly to your door, anywhere in Canada.

By sourcing unique, small-batch, limited edition whiskies from our partners in Scotland and around the world, we’re able to curate a list of products that many Canadians would not otherwise have the opportunity to enjoy.

Our approach is simple: flexible delivery schedule; the ability to pause, upgrade, or cancel your subscription at any time; and no contracts or hidden fees.
