Harris Farms We are a family farm located in springwatwr Ontario (just outside of barrie). Harris farms is a family run business from 4 generations of farmers.

Our outdoor on farm roadside market is open from May to the end of October with all in-season produce available. We are located on George Johnston rd just west of Barrie. We grow and sell
fresh fruits and vegetables, specialize in sweetcorn with yellow and peaches n' cream
varieties. We also grow vegetables such as potatoes, tomatoes, peppers, onions,
beets, cucumbers, beans, squash, pumpkins an

Last week marked the last planting of the year as we planted the last patch of lettuce. Veggie farming is unique as different crops mature at different rates, and we end up planting a wide variety of different patches in order to keep harvesting all season long.

18 weeks of planting total:
1 planting of tomatoes, peppers, eggplant, pumpkins, squash, onions, leeks, watermelon, strawberries, garlic, kale, Swiss chard, celery
2 planting of cucumbers, zucchini, cabbage, cantaloupe
3 plantings of beets, peas
7 plantings of broccoli, cauliflower,
9 planting of lettuce,
12 plantings of beans, sweet corn

We are picking a lot of beautiful peaches and cream and yellow corn and we have a lot of it ready right now.

This is a great time to get your corn for preserving for the winter. Whether you freeze, can, or freeze dry, it will taste amazing having this vegetable all winter.

Buy 5 dozen for $36. There is no need to order. Just come in, and we will get it ready for you. (Reusable bags, bins, or tubs welcome to pack corn into).

Our family stores corn for winter by quickly blanching it in boiling water, cutting it off the cob, and packing into dinner portioned containers for the freezer. Easy and simple!!

One new crop this year for us is collard greens. We aren't very familiar with them, other than knowing they are the same family as broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, and brussel sprouts and grow pretty mush the same way.

How do you eat them though ? Anyone have good recipes for collard greens ??

One of the jobs picking corn involves driving this tractor between the rows going 0.4 mph so the crew picking corn can keep up with the conveyor on the back. It is extremely simple and safe to drive and im their the whole time.

So when my 8 year old daughter tells me she is ready to drive it, like any dad you smile and give her the ok. 👩‍🌾

She has been watching and learning since she was a year old 😉

The cucumbers are still full of blooms and producing soooo many little cucumbers.

We have both sizes currently available daily. You can just come in and ask for them, or you can plan ahead and order for a certain day and let us know!
2-3inch cucumbers are $68 full bushel. $42 half
4-5inch cucumbers are $55 full bushel. $33 half

We pick the cucumber patch every other day (and sometimes even back to back days) in order to get the cucumbers picked at the ideal size for pickling. As long as we continually pick the cucumbers and the plants stay healthy and watered, they send out new flushes of blooms that grow into cucumbers 🥒

What we do with a little spare time 🙃
Straw is a great byproduct from wheat that we use majority of as bedding for the cattle in the winter time.
We sell a little bit of it for decorating in the fall 🎃

But it is mainly done on some of the hottest days of summer ☀️
