RiverBound Farms We produce chicken and duck eggs from pastured birds, and offer both chick and duckling raising programs in the spring/summer.

We are a small family farm raising heritage breed chickens and ducks for egg production, as well as offering chick and duckling raising programs, chicks and ducklings for flock additions. All of our birds have year-round access to outdoor space to play and forage.

We’ve had some end of season movement and have a few spots available for families who would like to experience the duckling magic in August!

The duckling program includes 2 just-hatched ducklings, feed for them that will last 4+ weeks, a big bale of bedding for their brooder, and safe returns to the farm until October 1st.

You’ll get to love on and care for these sweet creatures without the stress of long-term care, all while knowing they have a safe place to return to.

Just a few spots are available!

I know we have some tractor fans in our follower base 😉. The wheat crop here was harvested on Friday, and the straw was raked so it could dry.

Saturday we had a couple of different balers in the field. Stacks of 21 small squares, and BIG round bales too.

It’s an itchy and sweaty job dealing with straw bales, but thankfully it’s only necessary to do once every 3 years!

No scrubbing required for ducks! They clean (“preen”) themselves ❤️

They have a gland by the base of their tail that produces oil. They rub their bill against this gland and then spread the oil around their feathers. That is what makes them waterproof!

Water is needed to properly spread the oil around, so yet another reason to keep the water bowl handy 😊

Seems that the internet thinks that ducklings need to have their waterproof adult feathers before they can swim, but that’s definitely not true!

If you have your ducklings swimming, make sure they’re warm enough afterwards. If there is a breeze or you have your air conditioning going, make sure to gently towel them off in the direction of feather growth (head to tail, never tail to head).

You could even use the warm setting on your blow dryer from a distance to help them dry off if they’re shivering!

I could watch ducklings swimming all day! As they get stronger, they like to zoom under water 😍

If by 4 weeks you haven’t heard a quack, that’s sign 1. The 2 syllable mwep noise is the next giveaway.

If you’ve made it to week 6 or 7, the raspy voice will be apparent.
