Made chicken feed, this morning.
Organic wheat and barley. Just a pinch of organic canola for fun.
Limestone, grit, some conventional soybean meal. And a bag of dry molasses for flavour. Some herring meal and an amino acid balance, from TIGA Acres. A few litres of vegetable oil for dust control.
Happy birds are productive birds.

Gonna have another try at certified organic non GMO Polish canola.
No terms of use agreement, no expensive sprays. We're going to try it in a bicrop, Peaola. In theory the peas give nitrogen to the canola, and the canola forms a scaffold to hold up the peas. More air movement, less disease.

Yesterday, I spent a mind bending afternoon with Farming Forward and Regenerative Alberta Living Lab for an in depth dive into the soil on this farm. From soil samples to multi layered digital maps, plotting soil carbon levels, total soil nitrogen amounts and colour coded soil horizons, it was amazing to match these results to personal history of on farm experience.
And, we are probably only beginning to figure out how to use these techniques to grow with less inputs and potentially more nutrition.
