We moved our turkeys and bulgy broilers indoors earlier in the summer. They couldn't deal with the excessive rain. And the birds blossomed! These are some of the biggest and evenly sized turkeys we've had in a few years. Still organic grains. And fresh cut greens too. Will be off to the processor October 8. Just in time for Thanksgiving. (The proper Thanksgiving, not that silly November business)

With the unusually large amount of precipitation, lately, as well as the ferocity when it arrives, we have decided to move the bulgy broilers inside for the last few weeks before they leave. Add to that the extreme heat and humidity, it stresses them when they are at their most vulnerable.
For those who have purchased our birds in the past, or may be considering it, use your own judgment as far as any pasture vs loose housing in your purchases.

Made chicken feed, this morning.
Organic wheat and barley. Just a pinch of organic canola for fun.
Limestone, grit, some conventional soybean meal. And a bag of dry molasses for flavour. Some herring meal and an amino acid balance, from TIGA Acres. A few litres of vegetable oil for dust control.
Happy birds are productive birds.
