*The Hmongs came in a shipment of eggs, I didn't breed them. Unfortunately the pullet has curled toes. Doesn't affect her, just aesthetically a fault. She's the only one in the bunch that developed them*

I spy with my little eye... 6 brand new chicken runs! I can't wait to show off my set up when it's all done. Spring next year is going to look a whole lot different, and easier.

We are hoping to get to sorting chickens today 🤞 if we do, I will have some pairs/trios available. I'll be snapping some pictures as we go. I know for a fact that I have a Hmong pair available (pullet has a fault), possibly a trio. I know I'll have some OE pullets. And I know I have Bresse, OE, Lav Orpington, and maybe 1 Barred Rock rooster.

If not today, sorting will happen this week

I hate trying to get candid pictures of birds 🥴 before and after, best I've got lol

Does anyone want either of these 2 Bresse? I didn't breed these birds, they came in a shipment of eggs I ordered as extras. They're almost 7 weeks old, assuming 2 cockerals from the combs but I make no promises.

I also have unlimited olive egger roosters if you want future colour in your egg baskets. Off heat, under heat, take your pick

Today happens to be my birthday, and I get to spend it working on projects in the yard at the new house with my purple dinosaur 🐓

We are officially in Harrow, and with the move will come a page name change, and a logo change once I'm finished with them. We're not straying far from our roots, I just figured the new farm deserved a new name.

Ps. For the time being dog food can still be picked up in Essex. That will all switch over to Harrow by the end of June

Have you ever hatched out a fibromelanistic chicken? Birds such as Svarthöna (what I hatched), Ayam Cemani, Silkies etc can leave behind these dark stringy veins.

Any breed can leave behind a dried out vascular membrane when they hatch, and while they usually dry to a dark burgundy colour, in fibro breeds they typically dry down a deep black.

Fibromelanistic chickens have a gene mutation that causes hyperpigmentation. That can mean black feathers, skin, beaks, combs, wattles, meat, organs, and even bones.

🌷Happy mothers day to all the wonderful moms out there🌷

I was lucky enough to score 3 fruit trees from Maidstone Tree Farm & Garden Centre for my mothers day present. A perfect start to our small orchard! Huge thanks to my husband and our wonderful kids of course.

The Rustic Rangers have arrived!
I have a rule of eggs only, no live birds at my house when bringing in poultry. But I have to make an exception for the meat birds, though they are brooding alone.

I'll be keeping the girls from this group, plus a rooster or 2 to continue hatching my own meat chicks whenever I want them, rather than relying on the feed store. We've had a flock of RRs in the past (picture) and I much prefer to have them on farm vs ordering.

In a few short weeks they'll be ready to tractor around the yard. It's good for the birds and good for the grass
