Did you know alpaca fiber is not only soft and luxurious but also scientifically amazing? 🧬✨

Like other animal fibers, alpaca fiber is made of keratin protein with a structure of overlapping cuticle cells (scales) on top. 🐏 What makes alpaca fiber unique is the height and length of these scales. In huacayas, the scales are tight to the cortex, and in suris, they’re even tighter, giving the fibers a silkier, softer feel. 🌟 The longer scales also create fewer serrations along the fiber, resulting in an even smoother, softer touch and a beautiful reflective quality. 🌟✨

That’s why alpaca fiber is perfect for cozy, durable, and ultra-luxurious garments! 🧣🧶

“The best views are seen from between the ears of a good horse”

Haven’t had the chance to post about my little adventure a couple weekends ago yet but it’s too pretty not to share!

Kim and I toured out to Sundre and although a very quick trip it was so worth the views! ❤️

My little buckskin proved herself after way more time off than usual - she didn’t skip a beat and safely carried me through some of the most beautiful trails!

Why DK Acres?

DK Acres is located on the crossroads of the Number 1 and Number 9 Highway. We are located a short drive from Brandon, Regina, Yorkton and Carlyle. We started this farm with a few registered Arabians and a small flock of Barred Rocks and have now expanded to multiple more breeds of Poultry, registered North Country Cheviots and Hereford Hogs. We concentrate on the heritage breeds that built this country and strive to produce animals and products that would make our great grandparents proud! We allow our animals as natural and cage free life as possible and practice sustainable farming methods.

Besides the poultry and livestock we have other passions we share which includes dog training and grooming along with beginner riding lessons. We also offer our theraplate for rent and as well as our red light therapy pads.

We take pride in our animals and products and look forward to getting to know you! Come join us on this crazy Almost-Homesteading adventure! We are excited to share it with you!
