A day of bread making on
Mykonos!
There were a lot of people participating in this, so I’m not sure if it changed the outcome of the bread.
The chef we were working with could barely speak any English so it made things a little bit dicey!
As an example, he didn’t know how to say divide something in half. He would point out and go 50-50. I showed him pictures of the breads that I had made, and he started calling me chef.
It still was interesting. Their idea of a farm and what we’re used to in Canada are polar opposites.
Anyway, we made cinnamon bread, which they candied the rind of orange with orange juice and more cinnamon and honey, and poured it over the cinnamon bread, which was very delicious. We made buns with olives in them. We made pesto rolls and breadsticks and pizza. I put together the one pizza that I have a photo of. Again, and I stress, Debbie was being a fantastic sport coming along with me and Cooking for a day.

Another great day of cooking in Santorini! We cooked in a traditional restaurant with chef Vassilis, who has competed in international culinary competitions and is considered a legend of local Cooking!

We prepared many different dishes, we made garlic, fresh pasta, tzatziki, Fava beans, Greek salad, and I think Debbie would agree with me. Our favourite was the tomato fritters!
I have to find a way to prepare these for the RM Of Kindersley, and the RM Of Newcombe! They are just too good for me not to share with everyone!

I know, last time I shared it about the restaurant in Humboldt by the name of Mario’s. And he still keeps creeping into my mind with every dish I make, so I probably will refer to him a lot as he’s the one who gave me my first love of Greek food. It seemed at every function that I was at Mario was the one behind the grill if it was a golf tournament or a Christmas party or any celebration. I wish that he was around for me to tell him all about my Cooking adventures in Greece.

So Mario, I know you’re looking down and you’re maybe happy that one girl you taught in Humboldt, is enjoying some time in Greece cooking the food that you so adored.

Hi everyone from exciting Santorini!
Today was a great touring day and our tour guide Kostas was absolutely amazing! He has studied archeology so he was a plethora of great information. We were taken on a visit to the mountain of prophet Elias. It is located at an altitude of nearly 2000 feet. Deb and I were thrilled to have a private tour at the Akrotiri excavations, a prehistoric settlement. After the Bronze Age eruption many of the Minion civilization’s buildings were protected by volcanic materials, similar to Pompeii. We explored sacred areas, admired ancient walls, paintings and frescoes, and walked around the ancient buildings.

After this, we were taken to a wine tasting where we had a fabulous late lunch. Deb and I find it quite entertaining that their idea of a late light lunch is enough lunch for us for the next day.

What a great way to excite your pallet!
One of my best friends and I have set out on an excursion to Greece. Deb is an amazing good sport, as I don’t believe her idea of a holiday usually includes cooking.

Yesterday, we went to Madame Sousou restaurant, for our first culinary experience.

I’m not sure exactly what to expect, as I’ve taken Greek Cooking from a gentleman from Humboldt by the name of Mario.
If anyone from Humboldt or that district is reading this, they would all know the name Mario from Mario’s restaurant in Humboldt. His Greek food was exquisite! I remember taking classes from Mario in 1997 and I still cherish those recipes yet today. But being in the atmosphere of Greece has brought his memory to the forefront of my mind. And trying recipes again has enlightened a new fire in me.

I am attaching some of the photos of our food that we created at Madame
Sousou.
The fresh ingredients in our Greek salad and our souvlaki, with pita bread, and tzatziki were delicious. We actually had so much leftover. It took us two more suppers to finish up our leftovers!
Santorini is beautiful, and just walking into town and walking through the grocery store to see local ingredients, is always something I find interesting.
Deb and I are definitely enjoying different sweets in our evenings!
