Lucille 50% Jersey (Danish bloodlines) × Holstein. Bred July 6 to A2A2 a mid sized Miniature Jersey bull, Ever Green Murphy (Northwoods Vanguard X Back Forty Poppy) and hasn't cycled back

Nurse cow extraordinaire!

Not halter broke BUT she's that type of "point and shoot" cow who, once she's familiar with the routine (2 or 3 times is all it takes), just needs pointed in the general direction and she's shooting right in to place!! She's ALL business; "let's get to it, let's get it done and let's get me back out" if you're milking her. If you're using her as a nurse cow, she's ALL about loving her babies!! She will give every ounce of her energy to feeding, fussing and loving calves, so she must be managed correctly! Waiting on her DNA results from Neogen.

Today I started the Synchronizing Protocol on both Krackle and her daughter Daisy. We should be seeing very strong, standing heat in a week's time and should they "stick" their breeding to Murphy, they will be sure the very last week of May in to the first week of June!

Lazarus has made it to his new home in Ontario! Wishing Becky, Phil and crew nothing but success with him! Here's to **more** WFR BENNINGTON LAZARUS calves (hopefully ALL heifers for you) in 2027 (and beyond)!! Thank you so much for your purchase and your trust!! DAIRY BREEDS: IF THEY HAD PERSONALITIES 😂🐄

My mood is absolutely spectacular this morning… which means you all get posts like this. 😂

Spend enough time around different dairy breeds and you start realizing the stereotypes exist for a reason.

HOLSTEIN:
The overachieving workaholic. Produces like her mortgage depends on it, eats like she’s fueling a small nation, and can go from perfectly healthy to “WHY ARE YOU TRYING TO DIE?!” with very little warning.

JERSEY:
Tiny body. Absolutely enormous opinion. She has already decided where she’s going, what she’s eating, and whether your fence is merely a suggestion. Will look you directly in the eye while committing a crime.

GUERNSEY:
Sweet. Sensitive. Affectionate. Beautiful. And somehow medically committed to keeping you humble. Wants attention. Wants snacks. Wants you to question every veterinary decision you’ve ever made. 😂

BROWN SWISS:
The large, calm auntie who generally cannot be bothered by your nonsense. Moves at her own pace because she knows perfectly well that you are physically incapable of making 1,500 pounds hurry.

MILKING SHORTHORN:
The practical farm girl. Usually sensible, hardy, and pretty easy to live with. Occasionally remembers there’s beef cattle in the family tree and develops some very firm opinions about personal space.

AYRSHIRE:
Athletic. Alert. Suspicious. She noticed you entered the pasture approximately three minutes before you noticed her. Might cooperate beautifully. Might decide today is the day everybody gets cardio.

DAIRY CROSS:
Genetic roulette. Could inherit Holstein production, Jersey attitude, Swiss stubbornness, and Shorthorn durability in one convenient package.

Congratulations. 😂

BEEF × DAIRY:
Built like she has somewhere important to be and absolutely no interest in discussing it with you. Hardy, efficient, and occasionally confused about why these weird humans keep touching her udder.

And then there’s THE INDIVIDUAL COW.

She reads everything you just wrote about her breed, looks you dead in the eye, and says:

“Cute. Watch this.”

Because breed tendencies are absolutely a thing.

But cows?

Cows specialize in making liars out of people who make absolute statements about cows. 😂🐄

It's time to introduce the girls I am harboring. The short one is Krackle (maternal grand daughter to Creekside Senator Edelweiss and paternal grand daughter to Sure Short Northern Toro) and the tall one is her yearling daughter, Daisy (Dexter sired).

They will both be exposed to Murphy in the very near future (once their sync protocol is complete)

The corral cleaners came today and they cleaned the big calving barn where I milk. No one had time to put the maternity pen back in and my milker wouldn't reach it where it was sitting outside the barn so, after a fight with Monika to hand milk, I gave up and asked her to stand in the barn. I couldn't have asked for a better behaved cow!! She never moved; even AFTER milking was finished!!!

Short distance trip to bring home a mother daughter pair that needs a soft, loving place while their mum gets on her feet again. Coincidentally the mumma moo was born on our place 4 years ago!!!!

At work today, the handling system and chute got a major makeover with "rig mats" to sit upon and the scale's load bars attached and the scale head set up for a test run!

I weighed in 4 pounds heavier this afternoon on the Gallager scale than I at home on my fitbit scale
