Thanks for your patience as I have been mysteriously absent heading into fruit season. Folks, we're skipping July, at least.
At first I thought I'd take the whole year off. As it is our 7th year on the stand, an Old Testament style sabbatical seemed appropriate, especially after my truck blew up last year. But I'm just not sure.
Skipping Cherry season for the following reasons:
I've never once made a profit on cherries, even in a good year.
I've been told it's another bad year for cherries in the OK.
The gas prices are astronomical.
It's a guaranteed money-losing endeavour and I just don't feel like doing that right now.
On the other hand, Peaches have always been good to me, and Dad's been kind enough to lend me his pickup truck for a trip or two. So perhaps once the Freestones are in (early/mid august) we'll start heading west again. It may be a wholesale/preorder idea, I'm not entirely sure at the moment. Just stay tuned, We'll figure it out.
Sorry everybody, and thanks again for bearing with me in this season of "shakin it up"
And if you find yourself in the Okanagan this summer, stop by Oliver Garden & Fruit Market for the best dang fruit in the West. Tell ‘em Jolie sent ya.
