Hello Everyone.
I have been getting quite a few notifications of my page being viewed - assuming looking for my next opening date...?
I am not a big fan of openly sharing my personal life, but realize it's been awhile since I have opened the stand up and feel I owe it to you all to explain why this is.
My real profession is as a nurse, a Licensed Practical Nurse to be more precise.
I find baking to be a therapeutic release and calming for myself that helps me to unwind from the mental burdens one carries with a front line type of career; hence the creation of the farmstand 🙂
I have not been baking lately as I have been focused on picking up work shifts and prepping for an upcoming strike...
What many in the public were not aware of is that although the 'nurses' recently did get a much deserved raise not too long ago, it was not all of the nurses!
LPN's were not included in receiving a raise as they do not belong in the same union as the RN's.
Without getting too deep into politics or using my farm page as a platform - for anyone not aware of the differences in role - at the bedside level of care you would be hard pressed to know one group of nurses from the other.
Some years back, the government of Alberta forced a higher scope of expected to perform skills onto the LPN's that has resulted in us working alongside our fellow RN's, quite often doing very close to the exact same role of care/skills/responsibilities, but at a much lesser cost savings for the powers that be.
Despite this demand for us to advance in training and then perform these higher level skills, (we are now in fact the highest level trained and practicing scope of LPN's in all of our Canadian provinces), we have not been given recognition as nurses, (we are classified as auxillary nursing care rather than the diploma educated, regulated, and licensed nurses that we are), nor compensation in any way for the forced scope of practice = increased workload.
Ironically, we are also almost the lowest paid nurses, provincially, in all of the country as well 😑
Our strke vote starts on the 30th and I expect that we will likely be striking shortly to follow.
Soooo, long story not as short as I had intended for it to be 😆😂😂 - after the strike vote/possible strike - I will have more time to focus on my love of baking and will open up again as soon as time permits, hopefully closer towards the 2nd week of November.
Thank you for all so much for your patience, understanding and support ❤️
