Newborn calf's first steps captured on camera to give you a glimpse of how quick these little ones learn to get up and get to it! No time to dilly daddle when there's a custom order of fresh milk being 'brewed' just for you all day every day! Antibodies, protein, fat, carbohydrates, vitamins and minerals all included at no extra charge πŸ˜‰

Came across this calf on one of our checks- Bedded itself down in the hay bale, grabbed itself a bite to eat, and was soaking in the warmth of the sun after a cold night while the rest of the herd ate around it. We try to keep our herd dry and warm when it's cold out or when the weather is suboptimal. If the remnant of the hay bales is not enough bedding, we'll add on some straw, especially if it's wet and cold. If the calves can nestled themselves into it, we can have a little bit more peace of mind that they will be able to keep warm with that layer of insulation between them and the cold ground.
Warmth + Food = Happy Calves!

Why are we so obsessed with milk? And no, it's not just Tina's growing up on a dairy farm...
We know that it's important for calves to get colostrum as soon as they can, but we also know that cows and calves are not perfect. Difficult deliveries, poor maternal instincts, death, and many other less than ideal situations happen. We're thankful though that we have options, experienced farmers and professionals to talk to to help us navigate these circumstances. Most of what we learned is from experience, other farmers, our veterinarians, and different resources such as the Beef Cattle Research Council. There are many webinars and podcasts out there as well. If we've learned anything is that there is always more to learn!

We are so glad when we check on the herd and see newborn calves born without any problems- every birth is neat to witness but this is one we wish we could have seen with our own eyes! This cow had her calf on top of a hay bale! Talk about dinner and a show for the rest of these ladies πŸ«£πŸ˜… This bull calf has been doted on by many, groomed by all present, and born into comfort and no lack of food! We can definitely say that this introduction to the world gave him a real kickstart to life!
