Nak'azdli Recycling Depot

Nak'azdli Recycling Depot Nak'azdli Recycling Depot is a drop off centre for your recyclables including plastic!

Starting May 19, 2014 businesses that supply packaging and printed paper to BC residents will be responsible for collecting and managing these materials so they can be recycled. Multi-Material BC (MMBC), a not-for-profit organization working on behalf of these businesses, will be responsible for residential recycling programs in many areas across BC, either directly or by working with local governments, First Nations, private companies and not-for-profit companies.

So excited to see Bob Motion run for Mayor!!

I know this is a bit of a political post but let me tell you why I feel compelled to share:
Bob Motion was my boss when I ran the recycling depot for Nak'azdli. He was amazingly supportive and I can still hear him say "it's the right thing to do" whenever we spoke about Recycling in FSJ. He has vast experience in many areas and has been a great asset in this community for years. I highly respect his honesty and open mind. If he doesn't have the knowledge in an area, he will seek those who do. No Ego. No Bu****it.
Him and I spearheaded the proposed changes to recycling within this town and approached the necessary governments. He got the ball rolling and trusted my opinion and experience (unfortunately things happened that were out of our control) but having him as Mayor would put some of that control in his hands and I am confident that green initiatives in this community would be supported and a top priority for him. I 100% support him and look forward to working with him again if he becomes our Mayor!
Please vote Bob Motion for mayor because he recognizes "the right thing to do," and I know great things will happen in this community because of it!

If you want to show your support for Bob by putting his sign on your lawn please text your address to 250 996 3752 and they will bring one by!

How to be more green at Christmas time!!! Don't forget, all paper wrapping is recyclable. Please take off ribbons and bows! Other Christmas items that are recyclable:
cookie tins
toy packaging (even the types with the plastic windows)
corrugated cardboard boxes
shoe boxes
cereal boxes (including the insert which is 'other flex packaging')
aluminum trays (like pie plates, butter tart cups, turkey baking trays etc)
gift bags with rope removed
tin cans from cranberry sauce
cheese wrappers ('other flex packaging')

Can you think of any i've missed?!

What do you do to make your holiday season a little more "green"?

Here are some of our tips!

- shop local, especially small businesses at craft fairs and business markets. This will cut down on emissions and packaging (while simultaneously stimulating the local economy)

- use reusable wrapping... Fabric gift bags, reuse paper gift bags, use real fabric ribbon that can be used over and over again, reusable tins or boxes etc.

- if you do use disposable wrapping, buy the kind you know can be recycled! Paper! No foil or plastic lined paper. Remove any bows or ribbons before putting it in your recycling

- use real napkins, plates, cutlery etc. Instead of plastic or paper during holiday dinners and get-togethers

- recycle old Christmas lights

- recycle all the extra plastic packaging from food containers, toys etc.

Do you do something else that we missed? Please let us know in the comments!

And DON'T FORGET!! The LAST curbside pickup will happen on December 24th, so make sure you clear out all your regular recycling to make room for the Christmas recycling! Organize it BEFORE you bring it to the recycling depot to save everyone the headache and time it takes to sort.

Happy Holidays! πŸŽ„

I REGRET TO INFORM YOU, there will no longer be RESIDENTIAL curbside collection after December 31st 2019 for the FSJ District and Nak'azdli Whut'en area (residents that fall under the Nak’azdli program with Recycle BC). Final collection will happen on December 24th for North, South & Nak'azdli Whut'en residents. I apologize for not getting notices out to the regulars who use the service. I hope this Facebook post can be liked and shared to help spread the word (if you know your neighbour uses the service doesn't have FB, please let the know!) I will have my two workers busy collecting ALL areas of town on that day so that they do not have to work on Christmas (and since the contracts expire on the 31st we cannot do a make up pick up) Any Christmas recycling you get on Christmas day you will need to bring to the FSJ Recycling Depot out at the transfer station! (will post another post on what is accepted and what is not for Christmas recycling)
- Thank you all for your continued support. It has been a great service and I am very sad to see this go...
