Today was another new one for me. I re-homed a nest of bumblebees from the insulation in the ceiling of a power shed. Wrapped em up in a bag and set them loose in sad looking canola field to do their work.

I have never seen bumblebees be aggressive, until today.. Mess with the nest, and they are relentless. Luckily there was some 70kmh gusts this evening and I was able run back to the truck and get outta there without incident. First time driving with the suit on too.. not recommended.

Today I culled my first queen, she looked good, but had turned into a drone layer. Next week I will graft some new queens and hopefully get some new quality layers.

I still have some 2025 honey available, local delivery could likely be arranged :)

First time in the hives this year. Out of 13, 3 dead, 1 almost dead, and 2 weak, put some fondant on everyone, and hoping spring comes soon..

Dug out and cleared the entrances. After a couple weeks of -20 to -35 degrees Celsius it warmed up to -5. One hive has way too many bees in it, lots of heat, moisture and dead bees.
