First look at the Walmart swarm today, everything is looking great, 5 frame nuc is pretty much built out and filled up with nectar, eggs and larva. Nice looking dark queen.

I’ll get these put into a 10 frame box as soon as possible.

Today was another new one for me. I re-homed a nest of bumblebees from the insulation in the ceiling of a power shed. Wrapped em up in a bag and set them loose in sad looking canola field to do their work.

I have never seen bumblebees be aggressive, until today.. Mess with the nest, and they are relentless. Luckily there was some 70kmh gusts this evening and I was able run back to the truck and get outta there without incident. First time driving with the suit on too.. not recommended.

Picked up a swarm at Walmart yesterday. Right outside the front doors. That’s one place I would never thought they would be.

Today I culled my first queen, she looked good, but had turned into a drone layer. Next week I will graft some new queens and hopefully get some new quality layers.

While I’m going to try not to have any swarms this year, I decided to put up a trap in the bees favourite tree just in case..

I still have some 2025 honey available, local delivery could likely be arranged :)
