Things are really starting to heat up around the ranch.
Tomorrow night, our first of three summer intern arrives, and the busy season officially begins.
The young horses are ready to start their training, and this year's foals are about to learn the basics: halter work, leading and trailer loading, and having their feet handled. Simple lessons that become the foundation for everything that comes later with their new owners.
What surprises some people is that after ten years of breeding horses, I still get excited when this time of year rolls around.
Every foal represents a blank page. Every young horse is a collection of possibilities waiting to unfold. You can study pedigrees, plan crosses, and dream about the future, but this is the season when you finally start to see little glimpses of what they might become.
Some will surprise you. Some will challenge you. A few may exceed every expectation you had for them.
That's what keeps it interesting.
No matter how many years I've been doing this, there's still something special about looking out across a pasture full of young horses and wondering where their journey will take them.
