It’s 48 degrees Celsius in the sugar shack today not including the humidity because when we bottle maple syrup we have to warm it up to a minimum of 180 f. So it’s unbelievable how hot it gets in the shack with all windows doors open etc. plus to more you bottle the more the hot pile stacks up and the heat just keeps getting higher. By 5 pm when you step outside on a 35 degree dayit feels very cool. If people only knew how much work goes into that bottle of syrup. Enjoy every drop folks and we’ll keeps making it.

We’re back at the Ottawa farmers market at Lansdowne every Sunday 9-3. We’re also open every day at the byward market 9-5:30. We sell our own pure maple syrup in all shapes and sizes in glass, plastic and tin cans. We also sell blue shoes honey wich is produced locally by our friend Brian Lacey. All excellent local products. Come and say Hi.

Yesterday was our last boil of 2025. We did an above average crop. It turned out to be a good year. Very tough start to the season but we pulled thru. We’d like to thank our neighbors for letting us tap their trees as well as lending us their kids to help during the season. The Quadeville kids for helping out looking for leaks and their help. My friends and family for their help as well. A big thank you goes out to our customers for their support every year as well. A lot of work goes into that bottle of pure maple syrup on your table!!! Thank you.

This is exactly what we needed to keep going till Easter. Yesterday was a rough day. At 9 am roughly we had À power outage that was advised to last til 11 pm last night so it looked like a lost day but it cam back on early afternoon. So turned out to be a good sap day! The season is so short so if we lose a whole day that could be devastating!! Glad it turned out ok. Now with fresh snow and we still have ice on the lakes it’s looking like Easter boiling is in sight!!!

We made some beautiful high quality pure maple syrup this week. So far this year has been a grind. Between the deep snow with no hard base for tapping, the wind storm’s blowing down trees on our lines, power outages and equipment issues it’s been a tough season so far. Fingers crossed we can pull out an average crop. Lots of work goes into that maple syrup bottle on your tables. Enjoy it!!!

We’re almost there. The vacuum levels are nice and high now! Just a couple dozen mainlines left to walk. We’ve had everything from bear chews to deer, squirrel and wood pe**er holes to fix!! Couple older extractors to seal up and we’ll be ready for the season. Every point of vacuum over 20 is 5-7% more sap!! It’s a big deal to walk and fix as much as possible. Our goal is 26 or more!! It’s the most important work of all! No sap then nothing to boil. Yesterday was a nice day. We started to boil at nine and finished at three because we were out of sap. So had a relaxing evening. Once they open up I’ve seen this tanks not only keep up to the ro but overfill too. So there definitely still frozen but it’s coming!!

Another beautiful day in Quadeville making syrup!! The weather station was saying plus five last night but we froze up here. So good day ahead of us here. Still tons of snow in the bush as you can see. Especially on the north side. I’ve never seen atvs with tracks get stuck like they have this year!!! It would be nice if it dropped couple feet. I guess it’s making up for last year! Enjoy the syrup weather!!!

Yesterday was our first boil of 2025!! The sugar content was only 1.2% so it’s just starting to thaw out very slowly. We have so much snow and frost I predict a slower start than normal but we’ll see. The boil went very well. The vacuum levels are getting better every day! This is extremely hard work with all the snow it’s been our most difficult tapping season ever for us! It’s paying off. 70% of our lines are up over 25, 26, and 27 hg of vacuum!!! We have to dig out a few mainlines to get them up but it’s coming. Bring your boots and go visit a local sugar bush and help support them! No tariffs on maple syrup guaranteed!! It’s as Canadian as it gets!!
