Lakenvelder Canada seeks to establish a herd of these dual purpose cattle in Canada to assist in ensuring the survival of the breed. Lakenvelder cattle are stunning in appearance, possess a quiet disposition, have excellent meat quality, calve easily and grow well on grass and hay. Anyone who has been to the Netherlands will have seen these very distinct cattle in the Dutch countryside. About 25 y
ears ago the population in the Netherlands was at its lowest - about 100 animals - and due to the dedicated efforts of a core of Dutch farmers, has increased to over 3000 animals. Because of their "Canada Flag" like appearance and our strong historical ties with the Netherlands they are a natural fit for our country. Currently live animals cannot be imported from Europe so Lakenvelder Canada seeks to import embryos for transfer into surrogate cattle in Canada. We are currently seeking other farmers interested in establishing herds of Lakenvelders in Canada as well as farmers interested in offering surrogate cows on a "rent" or purchase basis.
