Ember is probably our most requested snake, or at least a very close second to Ragnar and Banana (whom a lot of people get confused and call them the others name).

Ember is incredible. She is so gentle. Boa constrictors are known for being gentle but, Ember is definately top tier, and her size is perfect.. she's not huge but isn't small.

I captured this sweet moment a few weeks ago at a birthday party.

Noodle still won't eat on his own. I still have to cut up his pinkie mice and then force feed him. If I put him down into his enclosure, he will regurgitate before he fully swallows it so, I still have to hold him in my hand while he swallows. It's quite a process but, he's eating, he's going to the bathroom and he's alive... So that's something! ❤️❤️❤️

While the run and walk are a big part of the day, this has always been more than a fundraiser. The Superhero Fun-Run/Walk is also a community engagement event. A chance to come together, connect with local organizations, enjoy family-friendly activities, and celebrate the people who make this community so special!

Join us at O’Dell Park this Saturday starting at 10am, and take part in activities like face painting and temporary tattoos, crafts, soccer, Bubble Balls, First Tee Golf with Good Guys Golf, Brilliant Labs / Labos créatifs, and a visit from Dragon Mire Farm!

Lunch will also be provided thanks to the generosity of Jack's Pizza & Donair

We are also excited to welcome Fredericton Spider-Man, 501st Atlantic Garrison, Steve Hicks, 5th Canadian Division/ 5e Division du Canada, Dave Lawrence and Stingray Music, Fredericton Police Force, Fredericton - Fire Department, York Sunbury Search and Rescue (YSSR), and Royal Canadian Mounted Police.

AND, if you have been looking for an excuse to wear a costume, this is it! Cosplayers, superheroes, sci-fi fans, and anyone who loves dressing up are more than welcome to join the fun!!

Whether you are registered to run or walk, coming to cheer someone on, stopping by to enjoy the activities, or simply spending the morning with us, we would LOVE to see you there!!

Pancake, the Black Throat Monitor is growing like a w**d.... I woke up today and he suddenly seemed huge! Lol

He's going to need his enclosure upgrade a lot sooner than planned!

Good thing we're getting everything set up for the reptiles at the new place this week! His new enclosure is there!

When he came home at the end of November, he fit into the palm of my hand! 🤯 He's not even close to finishing growing yet.

PART 4 (FINALLY) of Cupcakes story

So... We got an email saying he had a home. DNR refused to tell me anything. I offered to drive him wherever he needed to go and to facilitate this move as much as I could try help reduce the stress.

I found out he would go to Moncton Zoo before being transferred to his new home. The Zoo and I messaged back and forth and finally figured out when I could get him there, they said he was going to Ontario. DNR was still keeping it quiet. On my way to Moncton that morning, I posted a vague post, saying I was completing a rescue mission and would post about it later. I got an email shortly after from DNR, telling me not to discuss it until he was settled into his new home (that was already my plan). We got Cupcake to the zoo and let him out of his travel bin into a quarantine area. He wandered around calmly, flicking his tongue, following me and checking out the ladies who were there. He was such a gentleman. I wanted to just give him one last cuddle but, I couldn't, knowing I would break down into tears and make things worse.

The ladies at the zoo were amazing. We chatted about him and I told them his likes and dislikes, he would only be there for about 2 days but, I still wanted them to know EVERYTHING so they could ensure he was comfortable and they knew what he liked, if he was sleeping signs of stress. They thanked me profusely for saving his life and fighting so hard for him. When we left, my heart felt heavy but at the same time, light, knowing his life was saved. I messaged DNR saying he was dropped off and they never replied, I never heard from them again.

A few weeks later, I reached out to where I assumed he went. I know where he wasn't (by process of elimination, knowing who could house him etc) and it was confirmed he was there. They shared some pictures with me which made me cry. I would still love a video of him swimming in a big pond, knowing he would be SOOOOOO happy but, I'm not going to be a pain and demand things. I asked if they knew anything about him or his story, they did not. I wrote to them about how he came to us, I sent pictures, I told them his he loved cuddles and being scritched with a push broom. I told them about the first time he ate a whole fish (and included videos of the ridiculousness). I told them about how much we loved him and how much he loved us. They were so thankful and appreciative of the information, for hearing his story. They said he wasn't very friendly there so, they mostly left him alone. My heart sank. He was so cuddly and friendly. While I'm forever thankful they took him in and he was alive, I was sad thinking about him not getting cuddles, not climbing up onto any one for hugs. I was sad thinking about him not getting his back scritches. I hope in time he settles in and gets comfortable enough to cuddle once again. I hope one day I get to see him again, I wonder if he would recognize me and climb into my arms once again.

So in the end, I'm so thankful for the facility who took him. I'm thankful he didn't get euthanized. I wish DNR would have given out an application for a permit so Cupcake could have lived a long life of love and cuddles. I wish DNR would have passed along to the new facility, the things he loved. I wish a lot of things happened differently but, I guess at the end of the day, I'm grateful Cupcake is still alive and he's safe until he hopefully passes away of old age.

We all still miss him like crazy. Sometimes when we're at the grocery store and walking past the fresh fish section, we will stop, look at each other and give each other a look... We miss buying him his favourite foods and watching him eat. We miss the cuddles. We miss him.

I hope his keepers love him like we did because, he's not just a lizard, he's so much more. He was a part of our family and he always will be considered as such.

This was the special guest from Saturday!

I was asked if we had a big dog we could bring, that cuddles! I have cuddly little dogs, I have BIG dogs who cuddle, bit one gets car sick and the other one needs a crate in the car and his wouldn't fit. So that left the perfect cuddle bug.

Torvi is a rare breed called a Karelian Bear Dog. They're a primitive breed, dating back to the Vikings and you guessed it, they were bred for hunting bears. They are still used for bear control to this day. The Washington State Parks and Services have a few "on staff" to keep bears away from campgrounds and such. In Whistler, these dogs are brought in to clear trails ahead of Tuff Mudder, trail runs and other such competitions in the mountains.

Torvi is my second bear dog. Tuji was my first and my loyal hiking companion when I lived in BC. She accompanied me through the trails and mountains and would always warn me of bears before I even saw them. She lost her battle with epilepsy only weeks after her second birthday and that's when Torvi came into my life from their amazing breeder.

Torvi has always been special. She gives whale eyes like she's unsure of everything, and will put her ears down like she's scared but, her FAVOURITE thing to do is cuddle and snuggle. She's the size of a husky so not BIG but, big enough. She's shedding like crazy, despite daily brushings and she did manage to get stinky somehow that morning, but she came and made a little 4 year old the happiest girl in the world for those moments they shared.

I didn't get pictures of them but, we stopped at a friends on the way home and she wanted to see Torvi so I got pictures of them.

I don't think if she saw a bear she would protect me one bit. She would roll on her back and get her last belly rubs before her death (she's dramatic like that). But she's a sweet girl who has been by my side for 7 years and on Saturday, when a little girl wanted a dog, Torvi made her wish happen!
