This month's box is a little more special than the others. As some of you may know, behind this account there is an international couple: a Peruvian and a Canadian. Coincidentally, July is an important month of celebration for both countries, with Canada Day (July 1) celebrating Canada's confederation and Fiestas Patrias (July 28-29) celebrating Peru's independence from Spain.
So, to celebrate these two special countries we have designed this box as an amalgamation of desserts representing both countries, with one dessert unique to each country and the final dessert as a fusion of both.
For Canada 🇨🇦: Nanaimo bars. A delicious square with three layers. Bottom layer is a mixture of cocoa, shredded coconut, almonds, and graham cracker crumbs. Middle layer is basically buttercream mixed with custard powder. Top layer is delicious chocolate. The origin of Nanaimo bars (other than that they're probably from Nanaimo, BC) is pretty much unknown but they routinely come up as Canada's national dessert.
For Peru 🇵🇪: Tejas de Ica. Two pecan halves with manjar blanco (dulce de leche) sandwiched between them that is then dipped in a fondant-like mixture. The name means "tiles of Ica" and they originate from the Ica region of Peru. They are special for Milagros because her grandfather liked them and she wants to do something to remember him.
The Fusion ❤: alfajores with a maple 🍁 pastry cream filling. If you've been following our business for a while, you've almost certainly seen us post some alfajores, or maybe you've even tried some! Alfajores are a very popular sweet found throughout Latin America. An alfajor traditionally consists of two shortbread-like cookies, with a layer of manjar blanco (dulce de leche) between them, and topped with powdered sugar. To give a Canadian twist, we've substituted manjar with a sweet and delicious maple pastry cream.
We're accepting orders from now until July 28th, with pick-up or delivery occurring on July 31st. A full box will contain 4 alfajores, 4 Nanaimo bars, and 8 tejas de Ica for $30, while a half box is $15 and contains half as many items as the full box.
