Godetia pinching time ✂️🌸 I’m pinching the plants to encourage more branching. By cutting back the plant redirects its energy into producing multiple side shoots instead of one main stem.

It feels a little wrong cutting off perfectly good growth, but a few weeks from now these plants will reward me with way more stems and flowers for bouquets. 🌸🙌

One stem now = many stems later. That’s flower farming math. 😆

One little trick I use to keep the flower season rolling a little longer…

Each year I leave one bed of feverfew and rudbeckia to overwinter while also planting new seedlings in the spring. 🌱

The overwintered plants wake up early and give me blooms sooner, while the new plantings come into their own later in the season. The result? A much longer harvest window and fewer gaps between crops.

It takes a little extra planning, but having both an early crop and a later succession means more flowers for bouquets and subscriptions throughout the season. 💐

Most often, growing flowers is about thinking a year in advance, considering countless variables, and still having a backup plan (or two 😆). This is just one of the many ways I try to keep the flowers coming for as long as possible.

Week 2 spring subscription delivery complete ✅ ☀️ 🌷

This spring was intended to be full of endless tulip sales… never having to say “sold out.” Instead, our weather patterns had other plans. 🤷‍♀️

With the mild winter, some tulip bulbs rotted, and then the extreme blast of heat caused just as many to experience bud blast (when a developing bud fails to properly grow/open). Farming really knows how to keep you humble 😅

We still had an amazing Mother’s Day week with sales from the farm and at Liberty Foods, and subscription deliveries have continued on as planned, but the extra tulips I planted in hopes of extending sales just never came through this year.

As frustrating as it is to share the risks that come along with farming, I’m also sitting here about to hit “post” while starting my order for next year’s tulips… and I’m not holding back despite the crappy spring.

It can’t happen two years in a row… right? 🌷

Starting these beauties this week ✨ 20 different varieties this season!

Is it the most efficient to grow 20 varieties of one flower? Nope.

Do I regret it? Also nope 😆

Some flowers are just a passion project. 🌱
