School Study-The Pain in the Process

Recent events around the release of the Montague Intermediate School Study by Janet Perry Payne have given me reason to pause and consider why the PSB would release a report on the Friday of the long weekend (Thanksgiving) and somehow over-reach the stated purpose of the report and include the closure of Georgetown School as a possible outcome. Unfortunately, this served to derail the much-needed conversation on how to proceed and meet the needs of the growing student population at the Montague Intermediate School.

It makes you wonder if the study consultant Janet Perry Payne has done a considerable disservice to the efforts of the community and the educators who put considerable time and effort into this two-year study-on Montague Intermediate School needs. It also points out that the government, School Board and PSB need to get on the same page.

Thanks go out to Premier Lantz, MLA Brendan Curran and Education Minister Robin Croucher for their quick response and affirmation that the government is intent on proceeding with a new Georgetown School as they promised in 2024. That said, Georgetown residents won’t rest easy until the first shovel is in the ground.
